Joe Rogan apologizes for racial slur after video surfaces

Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — Spotify's popular U.S. podcaster Joe Rogan apologized Saturday after a video compilation surfaced that showed him using a racial slur in clips of episodes over a 12-year span.

In a video posted on his Instagram account, Rogan, who hosts a podcast called “The Joe Rogan Experience,” said his use of the slur was the “most regretful and shameful thing that I’ve ever had to talk about publicly.” But he said the clips were “taken out of context."

"It’s not my word to use. I am well aware of that now, but for years I used it in that manner,” he said during the six-minute video on his Instagram account. “I never used it to be racist because I’m not racist.”

Rogan’s mea culpa follows Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter India.Arie's announcement on Thursday that she was removing her music from the Spotify streaming service because of the racial slur that Rogan had made during his podcasts. She posted the video montage of Rogan's clips on her Instagram account. Rogan, who launched his podcast in late 2009, didn't specify which years he used the racial slur.

... his apology should not be accepted. I saw the clip on Twitter. He looks like he does now... it is not from the '50s and '60s. It's recent. He's deliberately being a provocative pig.

These are the same people who say, "I don't see color." That's another line that pisses me off.

Hell yes. I see color. Lots and lots of colors of all different shades and ethnicities and we are all beautiful. They do see color, they just don't like what they see if it ain't a light shade.

In the clip, Rogan can be heard saying that stepping into the movie theater was like walking into “Planet of the Apes.”

“We walked into Africa, dude,” he said. “There was no white people.”

then

Rogan denied that he was referring to Black people as apes in his video on Saturday, saying that it “wasn’t a racist story but it sounded terrible.”

******
I am curious as to what he was talking about then. Audience has no white people. Only Black people. It was like walking into "Planet of the Apes."
Please explain this

Bernie Sanders is facing a backlash from some Democrats after his campaign trumpeted an endorsement from comedian Joe Rogan, a popular podcast and YouTube talk show host with a history of making racist, homophobic and transphobic comments.

I was a kid in the 60s and a teen in the 70s. I would have gotten in more trouble for saying the n-word than the f-word. I was taught that not only was it offensive to talk that way, it was low class. People don't accidentally use the word. It's either in your vocabulary or it isn't.
