(2,730 posts)I've never had any problems with FB, -well except once when I was blocked from using Marketplace, but I got the issue straightened out--- I get no right wing ads or posts.. ever...
I understand the issues others have with it.

(20,645 posts)On the backend, it tracks every single move you make, not only on fb, and sells that to hundreds if not thousands of others. We are the product.
One day I got in the weeds on my Facebook account and found where they had sold my data and to whom. There were thousands of transactions including too many right wing organizations.
Im on there for work.

(1,691 posts)You might just be surprised.
Their data protection regulations put us to shame, as they do what we should have done from the start.
And other countries take note...You will be expected to fall in line with every demand from these corporations and would-be gods of automation.
Wal-Mart found that out in Germany and left after a few years once they realized they could not engage in their predatory business practices. They threatened to leave and Germany said 'Bye-Bye'.

(41,637 posts)Americans would probably quit Facebook finally and forever if something new came out of this. Not all Americans of course, but enough to make the new platform replace the focus on Facebook.

(10,749 posts)Sounds like his line in the sand. I hope the EU stands firm and FB shuts down in Europe. Something has to take these billionaires down a peg or two.
And that other countries follow the EU's lead.
The reality? Nothing will change. Everyone will threaten. Nothing will happen. And the billionaires win again.

(4,094 posts)For someone who does not do business through Facebook I don't see any purpose in being there...but that is just me, I have never liked Facebook, I have never felt comfortable telling people in the World what I am doing, where I am going, showing photos of where I am at, etc. I signed up because I let a friend talk me into it, and then never used it again.

(4,094 posts)What a threat, now it is official, Zuckerberg has a lost a screw (or a few) in his brain.
What kind of a threat is that? I sincerely hope that the EU does not give him what he wants.
By the way, I deleted my subscription to Facebook...Never used it anyway, I have never liked Facebook, but nonetheless I believe it sends a little message...I am trying to convince some in my family to do the same...

(7,164 posts)The OP quote mentions "source code control files", which simply does not make sense in this context. The same paragraph from the CNBC article seems to have the correct definition of SCCs:
Standard Contractual Clauses makes sense.

(8,999 posts)And I would be affected. Just last week, I made a post asking if anyone cared if I left Facebook and several of my old colleagues and friends actually said, please don't go. After my Mother passed away last year, I wonder why I keep it. There's my answer. I've sent my contact details to a few that I haven't actually met in person yet so we can keep in touch.

Meta Platforms Inc.s veiled threat to quit Europe because of blocked talks over privacy rules was more like music to the ears of two top German and French politicians.
After being hacked Ive lived without Facebook and Twitter for four years and life has been fantastic, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck told reporters at an event alongside French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire in Paris on Monday.
I can confirm that life is very good without Facebook and that we would live very well without Facebook, Le Maire added. Digital giants must understand that the European continent will resist and affirm its sovereignty.
The pair were responding to comments in Metas annual report published Thursday, warning that if it couldnt rely on new or existing agreements to shift data, then it would likely be unable to offer a number of our most significant products and services, including Facebook and Instagram, in Europe.
