CBC chair says GOP lawmaker told her 'kiss my a--'

Source: The Hill

Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), the chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, alleged on Tuesday that GOP Rep. Hal Rogers (Ky.) told her to "kiss my ass" after she asked him to wear a mask before boarding a train in the Capitol as lawmakers headed to votes in the House chamber.

"Today, while heading to the House floor for votes, I respectfully asked my colleague @RepHalRogers to put on a mask while boarding the train. He then poked my back, demanding I get on the train. When I asked him not to touch me, he responded, 'kiss my ass,'" Beatty wrote in a twitter thread.

"This is the kind of disrespect we have been fighting for years, and indicative of the larger issue we have with GOP Members flaunting health and safety mandates designed to keep us and our staff safe," she added.

Rogers's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill for comment.

We gave the world Meadows and Cawthorn. Both from the district I live in. But McConnell and Paul are a couple real winners. I blame it on rigged elections. Surely there are not enough idiots in these two states to legally put those 4 in power. Meadows, part term and left. Cawthorn, hoping he is an early exit as well. At least we could say we don’t keep re-electing the same idiots.

VERB
flaunting (present participle)
display (something) ostentatiously, especially in order to provoke envy or admiration or to show defiance.

So, it seems, though not exactly interchangeable, either works in this instance. Interesting. Thanks. ❤

... aren't. Disrespect, meanness just for the sake of being mean, cheating, rule breaking, and
all the time talking about Jesus, 'merica, and FREE Dumbs. Reagan, the loss of the fairness
doctrine, Newt's toxic act,Rush, Fox, w & TFG's stolen elections, and TFG's act have now put
this at a new level.

Perfect example is Gov. Greg Gianforte of Montana shot and killed a tagged Yellowstone wolf inside
a fenced in area just north of the park's boundary just to be a dick. He must have thought the killing
was good because it will make "the libs" sad.

This was racism, misogyny, and white male privilege on full public display.

I can't read this story and see it any other way. White man curses at a black woman AND puts his hands on her? That's a step beyond mere rudeness, imnsho, triggered by being "told what to do" by someone he considers his inferior.

In imagining how Rogers would have reacted to being reminded to wear a mask by someone other than a black woman, I can't help but believe it would gone down differently. Would he have put his hands on a white woman? I really don't think so. White southern men of his generation were trained to be "gentlemen," which includes being polite to (white) "ladies." They might regard women as the "weaker sex," but there are hard and fast rules about how a "gentleman" is expected to treat a (white) "lady."

What if a black man told Rogers to wear a mask? Rogers probably would have "poked" him even harder, and said something even worse.

How about a white man, someone Rogers saw as his equal? That could warrant a dirty look and/or a snarky comment, but I don't for a moment think he would sunk to the same level of rudeness.

Telling someone to kiss your nether regions isn't just rude. It's utterly contemptuous and disrespectful. That's one of the most disrespectful things you can say to someone without using the f word, and Rogers said it to a black woman. That says volumes to me about who he thinks is deserving of his respect and who is not.

Who’s the most cringe member of the Ky Congressional delegation? We have a new winner.

BY LINDA BLACKFORD
Lexington Herald-Leader, FEBRUARY 09, 2022 12:14 PM

Excerpt…

What money, you ask? In 2020, John Cheves wrote yet another story about Rogers’ various and lucrative political organization, including a PAC that pays Rogers’ wife $3,000 a month for “event planning.” Also, Cheves found the PAC had paid $18,000 so far for Tracy Rogers, the congressman’s daughter-in-law, and $36,000 so far for Bob Mitchell, his longtime friend and former district director who retired from Rogers’ office in 2012.” In 2011, the Center for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington found that Rogers, also known as the “Prince of Pork,” the longtime chair of the House Appropriations Committee, had funneled more than $236 million in federal funds since 2000 to a web of nonprofit groups he created in Kentucky, benefiting him, his family and his associates.

Politicians are not supposed to funnel money to associates or tell their colleagues to kiss their ass. Then again, they’re also not supposed to support or foment lies about election fraud and riots in the U.S. Capitol. Then again, this is the Kentucky delegation.
