Truckers misrepresenting employers by joining Ottawa protest, companies say
Source: CBC
"One of our employees took our truck since, I think, last Wednesday," said Miousse, who is currently in Florida. "I was very upset. So I sent four people Sunday morning to get our truck back." He said he plans to fire the worker.

On Feb. 6, the website convoytraitors.ca, initiated by an Ottawa IT specialist, started posting names of companies that had trucks in the protest area, along with photos with the intent of "naming and shaming" those involved.
Close to 200 companies were listed as either supporting or having trucks in the convoy as of Tuesday.

A map on the website shows truck companies located across Canada and some headquartered in the U.S.

Site Mission
Our mission is to document and shame every business that is identified as being involved in the 2022 Truckers Convoy occupation of Ottawa. This includes truckers, supporting businesses, hotels, and restaurants. By naming and tagging we hope to ensure that any future internet searches reveals the true nature of these businesses.
Note: I will only be posting clear photos where I can verify the business name and relative location. Close-ups, blurry shots, or shots outside of Ottawa are not posted.
Dear Trolls if the occupiers arent doing anything wrong then this should be an amazing site for you! Imagine all of the bulk trucking you could buy on a regular basis now. Clearly the site should have been called Convoy Heroes.
Dear Occupiers Times up, lawyer up! Dont forget you arent represented by Keith Wilson, he is only representing the leaders (

(4,095 posts)get away with using your employers truck in a protest.
Or to be foolish enough to put a very expensive truck at risk whether it is yours or someone else's. Without a truck, you aren't actually a trucker. The truckers I've known would have never compromised their truck or their livelihood over a vaccine.

(14,750 posts)The companies that own the trucks are trying to lay the groundwork for bailment.
They can't be held responsible if the drivers took the trucks without authorization, right, wink, wink....

(6,070 posts)If they haven't by now, they're complicit and should be at risk of having the trucks confiscated.

(2,900 posts)Youre telling me that nobody knew a freight truck has been sitting idle for over two weeks time?
Give me a break.
Somebody is going to notice this vehicle is not hauling.
If they arent hauling; theyre not profitable.
Nobody owns these trucks to sit on them.
End of story.
He knew.

(17,003 posts)the business can do is never, ever hire them again. Im confused about why a trucker should have a business sign on the truck if he isnt working for that company at that time.

(3,299 posts)they aren't "employees" legally. therefore, reporting the trucks stolen, can't happen. If you are an employee driver, and you don't meet your projected ETA or deviate significantly from your assigned route, the company knows almost immediately, and will first make an inquiry by phone or qualcomm. If the response is not satisfactory, your truck will be reported as stolen.
The thing is some companies, a significant number in the US anyway, convince employees to become "owner operators" under their carrier name, to shift the overhead costs to their employees, like insurance, fuel, purchase loan on the truck, etc. It's a bad deal, I tried to dissuade some of my fellow drivers from doing this, but some screwed themselves and did it anyway. They don't have the legal or business experience to understand what they are getting into.
The OTR trucks I observed in Ottawa were independent owner operators. Most were older rigs. The only way small time owner operators can make money is by operating an older rig that didn't cost much to buy. Then the risk is will it run for another 200,000 miles or more without a drive train failure?

(6,931 posts)Many of them might play that owner/operator game to get out of paying SS and other taxes but they'll get busted eventually.

(3,299 posts)they are owner operators not employees.

(108 posts)That the 1st course of action by authorities should be to revoke the licenses and registration of those involved in this "protest"....
jmowreader
(50,557 posts)Revoke their operating authority on both sides of the border. Operating authority is a federal license to use your truck in commerce. Without it they dont legally roll.
I would permanently downgrade their CDLs to regular drivers licenses
after all, they will need some way to get to their new jobs at Tim Hortons.
