Trump attacks McConnell after he criticizes RNC censure of two House Republicans probing Jan. 6
Source: Washington Post
Former president Donald Trump lashed out Wednesday at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), saying he did not speak for most GOP voters when he criticized the Republican National Committee for censuring two House Republicans investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.
Mitch McConnell does not speak for the Republican Party, and does not represent the views of the vast majority of its voters, Trump said in a statement issued through his Save America PAC. He did nothing to fight for his constituents and stop the most fraudulent election in American history.
Trumps statement, in which he continued to repeat false claims about election fraud, came a day after McConnell became the highest-ranking Republican elected official to criticize the RNC for the resolution censuring Reps. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) for serving on the House panel investigating attack on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob.
Pushing back against language in the RNC resolution that described the committees work as a persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse, McConnell described the attack as a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.

Plus, I hope that the Trial in on public television - so the whole damn world can see how stupid he is, in addition to being criminal.
Then, and maybe then, his voters can see what suckers they were for believing and voting for a man that they would not babysit their pets.

(6,169 posts)He's a facist, not a Republican. His people have co-opted the Republican party, and essentially destroyed it.
What we have now is a facist mess that pretends to be Republican.
Please don't misconstrue my words as a defense of Republicanism, it's simply an observation of the current state of affairs on the conservative side of politics.
McConnell is assuredly an asshole of the highest rank, but he's not facist. He is one of the leading voice of what passes for conservatism in this nation today, as sad as that may be.
And Cheney and Kinzinger are among the few traditional Republicans with the courage to stand up for what their party used to be.
The difference between them and McConnell is not all that much. McConnell is more of a political opportunist; fully dedicated to being the one who decides the direction of the Senate.
He only opposes Trump because he knows he would no longer run the Senate if they win in 2022.
Trump hates McConnell for the same reason McConnell hates Trump. Each one sees the other as an obstacle to power.
I see them both as an obstacle to the continuation of the Democratic Republic that has endured for well over 200 years.
Neither one can lead this country forward, they can only drag it down farther into the abyss that is the current state of what goes for Republican politics in the nation today.

(21,127 posts)He's waning, but I think he'll have to help ruin 2022 for the Republicans before his voice is quieted enough when someone else can truly be heard and listened too.
The question for me is, "will the new voice know where they fucked up in their coup attempt, or that they fucked up by having a coup attempt in the first place?" I feel a lot depends on that answer.
