Elon Musk donates $5.7 billion in Tesla shares to charity
Source: Axios
Elon Musk donated some $5.7 billion in Tesla shares to charity last November, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission published Monday.
The big picture: The donation of 5,044,000 shares to the unidentified charity from Nov. 19 to Nov. 29 by the Teslas CEO and world's richest person were made days before he traded barbs with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) over taxes, during which he declared he'd "pay more taxes than any American in history this year."

I for one, would love to see A Dem Zillionaire give ten billion to Lincoln Project so that their great ads would appear somewhere besides her on D.U.
I would start with Fox News, during prime time 4x an hour. Next would be the Major news media corporations. Broadcast TV, Cable news stations, major city newspapers in the front section, etc etc.......
The Dem Zillionaires got the same tax cuts as the Republican Zilionaires did, so they should have money from that source to donate without touching their principal. And they could maybe throw in one year's profits from their investments that also increased their net worth.....

(20,998 posts)...no one should attribute anything altruistic to Musk. If he had his way, he would pay no taxes and keep the donations.

(1 post)I am unwilling to bash a guy who ideates and literally creates jobs every where he looks.
He's on a mission. He's not perfect, but you don't have to say "evil" or "nut". He has Asperger's, right ?
Give the man a break.

Being a racist anti-vaxxer isn't caused by autism, it's caused by being a racist anti-vaxxer and all the 'donations' in the world doesn't change that.

Not defending him. just sayin'

(50,151 posts)The hosts at Fox are fully vaccinated yet are full blown anti-vaxxers on their programs. Promoting, in any way, that one shouldn't get vaccinated makes one an anti-vaxxer to me.
He is against mandates, has posted anti-vax memes, supports the so-called 'protests' in Canada.
The man is a racist anti-vaxxer.

(5,969 posts)especially his recent anti-left behavior made him look like an ignorant asshole.
But people demand all the time that rich people give back more and when they do it's never enough. "Just" 5.7 billion. Don't like it? Decline his money, tell him to keep it or donate it yourself.
As long as it's not his own foundation to ship around money and if it's a charity that does good, why is this not a good thing? And while it may easy his tax burden, he's still losing more money by donating (unless he's doing shady things with a charity that funnels the money back to him).

(16,162 posts)Charity could easily be a politically motivated donation. Donors Trust counts as charity, and its focused on a conservative public policy agenda in the areas of labor unions, climate science, public schools, and economic regulations with complete donor secrecy.
Or to fake religion (to get GOP elected) or pretend education (to inculcate rightwing ideas)
Like Joe Osteen / Falwell / thousands more like them
Barbara Bushs donation to have schools buy Neil Bushs Ignite software
In the meantime, Peter Thiel quits Meta board to push his conservative candidates.
Its naive to picture this as money to protect the environment or feed the homeless or any traditional charity.
