Some Russian troops moved to firing positions near Ukraine, Putin said be ready by Feb. 16: Sources
Source: ABC News
While Russia's defense ministry said Tuesday that some forces would pull back from Ukraine's borders after completing military exercises, the U.S. has so far not seen that, President Joe Biden said in an address to the nation.
But worrying U.S. officials, Russians troops are instead moving forward closer to the line, including with medical supplies, and being put into firing positions, sources told ABC News.
The U.S. believes that Russia now has all the necessary pieces in place, including 150,000 troops in the region, to launch a swift and brutal invasion of Ukraine, the sources added -- the reason why Biden administration officials have now publicly been saying Russia could move "at any time."
In particular, ABC News has learned that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had told his military forces to be ready to go by Wednesday, Feb. 16, but it is still unclear whether he has made a decision to attack his neighbor.

(4,352 posts)from Putin himself. He announces that he has pulled some troops back. Then he has told Russian troops to be ready by the 16th of February for invasion. He's created the situation with some sort of weird cat and mouse or carrot and stick approach. It's an exceptionally dangerous game. All you need is one wrong move by anyone and the the whole thing escalates into full blown war.
I think the guy is nuts and needs intense counseling.

Officially, Russia says that while it seeks implementation of the Minsk Agreements, it sees signs that Ukrainian forces are positioned to attack the Donbass region...:

And, you have quoted a Russian source (which is quite funny, considering DUs fussiness over credibility of news sources.) Do you really think their press will print anything that controverts the official line?
Oh, maybe your whole post is sarcastic...LOL...I like it...the whole quote is their expected false flag, prepping the Russian citizen for the horrors of a war with their neighbor...of course, the Donbas region belongs to Ukraine, and Putin has asserted his rights to it. He doesn't have any, of course, and has been at war with Ukraine over that region for a long time.
"It is highly probable that Kiev will embark on a combat operation in Donbass, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday." Well, dumbass! Of COURSE they're pumping up their defenses! Probably have a few Babushkas out there, too. Their "combat operation" in Donbas would be repelling the Russian army out of their country! But, thanks for telling us where you're gonna be! (Oh my, you can't make this stuff up...)

(1,568 posts)Right now we see them calling Biden a war monger pushing for war or whatever. If Biden was more passive and detached, then they would be calling him weak on defense. You know what, they will probably some find a way to do both at the same time, and their followers won't see anything wrong with it.

(54,770 posts)Id love to see NATO and USA actions stop an invasion. But, not betting on that right now.
I'm due east of the Marine's Miramar Air Station in San Diego, and I'm hearing a lot of unusual jet flyovers tonight. It's not normal.

(2,018 posts)I'm not talking about Wolf Bliztzcrieg reporting with bombs going off in the city behind him like he was the first to know. Im talking about military strategy. Every news outlet out there has a "source" etc of whats going on and whats happening. Its all mis/dis-information. We really don't know what the hell is going on or being planned by anyone except perhaps the diplomatic efforts. You dont go into or potentially go into a fight with your cards face up. My biggest concern is that nut fuck in Turkey. He could very well drag NATO into this. He's fuckin nuts.

(4,352 posts)It's more like our intelligence agencies do an exceptional job. And once they discover the Russian's plans, they leak those plans (but likely not all info) as a way to stop Putin from moving forward with the plan. The reports of a possible Russian false flag that came out a few days ago is one example.

He may be playing a very dangerous war game , putting his troops to the ultimate loyalty test, maybe hoping to use the scared straight tactic on Ukraine & the rest of the old soviet block. Even NK Kim wouldn't be that crazy to invade another country knowing the dire consequences,

(6,521 posts)I think Putin feels that he can win. He's checked out what NATO can do or is willing to do, he has lined up his ducks, gotten his excuses in order, and if he wants to go, he'll go. He's got Asia sewn up, so no worries there. I don't think he minds killing Babushkas.
He may be willing to talk more, but I don't think he intends, really, to give in. But, we will see. The weather is important here.
