Biden orders Trump White House visitor logs to be turned over to Jan. 6 committee
Source: Washington Post
President Biden has ordered visitor logs from the White House during President Donald Trumps tenure to be turned over to the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The former president claimed the logs were subject to executive privilege. In a letter Tuesday, a White House lawyer rejected the claim, saying the National Archives should provide the records within 15 days to the House committee.
The President has determined that an assertion of executive privilege is not in the best interests of the United States, and therefore is not justified, as to these records and portions of records, White House counsel Dana Remus said in the letter.

(33,081 posts)between the select committee and DOJ? All I ever read about are select committee investigations. Should the select committee be doing investigations that could interfere with the DOJ investigation?
Just_Vote_Dem
(3,736 posts)I don't know how that works. I know the idea is to have the committee turn over everything to DOJ at the end. Maybe they are overlapping?

(26,848 posts)The FBI Director is a Federalist. Maybe it's best that the House committee does the investigations and then turns material over to Garland for prosecution.
I wonder if the committee and Garland are communicating as the investigation proceeds.

(2,194 posts)Biden has far exceeded my expectations. The visitor logs might very well contain more damning information about what tfg and his co-conspirators were up to. Things the 1/6 Committee and the public need to know.

(173,712 posts)didn't exist on "Day One".
It was officially created July 1, 2021 after House approval on June 30, 2021, almost 6 months after January 20, 2021.
In fact, "Day One" was only 2 weeks after the insurrection and there was the hope that no new insurrection would materialize on that day.
However Biden DID sign 17 Executive Orders on "Day One" -

WASHINGTON In 17 executive orders, memorandums and proclamations signed hours after his inauguration, President Biden moved swiftly on Wednesday to dismantle Trump administration policies his aides said have caused the greatest damage to the nation.
Despite an inaugural address that called for unity and compromise, Mr. Bidens first actions as president are sharply aimed at sweeping aside former President Donald J. Trumps pandemic response, reversing his environmental agenda, tearing down his anti-immigration policies, bolstering the teetering economic recovery and restoring federal efforts to promote diversity.

littlemissmartypants
(35,504 posts)One only has to scan the Latest Threads page to prove that notion. Sometimes the exact same content is posted three times a day or more. Just in the last few days, in the Video & Multimedia Forum, the exact same videos have been posted back to back and more than once.
Sometimes, the exact post is made by two different people at the same time in the same forum or group. None of these things should come as any great surprise when you consider how fast the posting rate in the General Discussion forum is alone.
There's no "peruse before you post" rule and few think to check for duplicate threads before they post. Only in LBN does the OP get a preposting prompt to look for duplicates before posting. In all other areas of DU, you're on your own.
In my reading on linguistics and communication science, I read somewhere that for a written word or phrase to be ultimately valued it should be repeated a minimum of fourteen times. I believe that's one of the reasons why in commercials there's so much repetition of product names.
So in a population of ageing Boomers, which DU appears to enjoy, I think it's a good thing to have that repetition as our memories may be becoming clouded by the passage of time. It helps us remember. ❤

The Trump administration will not voluntarily disclose logs of visitors to the White House complex, it announced Friday, breaking with the practice started under former President Obama.
White House communications director Mike Dubke released a statement citing "the grave national security risks and privacy concerns of the hundreds of thousands of visitors annually."
