Hospital Locks Down ICU Over 'Online Attacks' for COVID Treatment
Source: newsweek
The wrath of a local religious leader forced an Oklahoma City, Oklahoma hospital to lock down its intensive care unit (ICU) and bolster security measures after the hospital refused to offer an unproven COVID-19 treatment to one of the leader's followers.
The Reverend Daniel Navejas, founder of The Ekklesia of Oklahoma evangelical group, led a protest outside of Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City demanding that doctors offer his "beloved brother," 70-year-old Robert Barth, a higher dose of a steroid known as budesonide, which was a request originally made by Barth's wife, The Oklahoman reported.
After the demand went unmet, the pressure for Barth's doctor to administer the drug mounted on social media after Navejas made a post describing one of Barth's doctors as a "murderer." This led one user to post the doctor's address and another to suggest they run him out of town.
"[The doctor,] his wife, and his small children are in fear for their lives," hospital attorneys wrote ......

(111,240 posts)instead of evidence based medicine.
It's time to transfer these folks who clamor for unproven drugs and won't listen to reason to a palliative care unit. Give them their poison of choice and keep them as comfortable as possible while it kills them.
It's also time to start regulating Facebook and other promoters of quack medicine. Irresponsible libertarians are killing people.

(21,425 posts)alternative care facilities. They could turn their own church social halls into care units. There are quack doctors and nurses who promote Ivermectin and oppose vaccines and masks. Let them treat their followers in their own facilities and free up hospitals for people who believe in medicine.

(9,969 posts)Hospital beds are still scarce in some areas. Let people who want to be treated have those beds. Right-wing media and the internet are turning too many people into raving lunatics.

(16,296 posts)Early administration of inhaled budesonide reduced the likelihood of needing urgent medical care and reduced time to recovery after early COVID-19.

(19,192 posts)was already in late stage COVID by the time they took him to the hospital. I imagine they tried to pray it away for quite some time before they took the last ride to the hospital.
God gave him an immune system, right?
Budesonide would have been a waste of time anyway. You can't administer it when you're intubated.

(19,192 posts)Do they think it's like Burger King, where you can "have it your way"?
Is it like a Chinese Restaurant, where you get one from column A, and one from column B?
Don't take your loved one to a hospital if you want to make every decision about their treatment. Doctors know what to do, you don't, no matter what you read on Facebook, or your church newsletter.
Fucking idiots!

(2,216 posts)Clearly their lack of faith and clear prayer are the issue here.
So I looked up the Reverend Daniel Navejas
His twitter label, "Husband Father Minister Abolitionist Founder of The Ekklesia of Oklahoma Entrepreneur Chairman of OKGOP CD3" tells it all.
When a person says Entrepreneur and Minister at the same time, it is usually a very clear warning sign that they are all about the money.
The Ekklesia of Oklahoma is even more interesting. It is a business. https://www.dnb.com/business-directory/company-profiles.the_ekklesia_of_oklahoma_inc.97a72b803d5bcacf9f7f4084942b2bf9.html
A religious business and they give this quote on their various web presences; "The Ekklesia by definition and historically, is known as the legislative & judicial branch of the Roman Empire."
This declaration makes it sure sound like they are Christian Taliban.
The more I look the more dangerous they appear to be. This man is looking for a fight, calls it oppression when he breaking the law and twists things around in a way that anyone but a tRump follower would see through in an instant.

.................The FDA has not approved the drug, nor has it been recommended by its panel as a treatment for COVID-19, although it is currently under clinical trials. Nonetheless, its use as a treatment for the disease has gained traction after a West Texas doctor hailed it as a "silver bullet," claiming, at the time a report was conducted by News West 9, that he had seen a 100 percent success rate treating his patients with the drug.................
