Serbian ambassador Oliver Antic has died today, apparently drowned, at the notorious beauty spot Boca do Inferno (Mouth of Hell) off the Cascais boardwalk.
Its not clear how the accident happened.

According to a report by Correio da Manhã, the ambassador was in a car, being driven, when he told the driver to stop at the top of the cliff.
He then threw himself off, writes the paper.
Other news sources contain themselves to saying causes of this accident are still to clarify.

(719 posts)on DU to prevent duplication, It ISN'T an opinion piece and considering that putin is doing what he is, his history of killing those who oppose him and his stated goal of wanting to reassemble the USSR w/as seize the satellite states, it IS of national interest.

(844 posts)There are some of us who don't spend 23 hours a day glued to DU. Some view other sites - some have jobs that take 8 hours or more - some have other things to do.
Unfortunately, I had a medical emergency today (not me but a close relative) so I couldn't spend the entire day on DU. When I got back (things with my BIL were fortunately ok) I ate, relaxed, sat down and turned on the net, checked news then went to some sites. So I didn't see or hear about this until rather late and while it doesn't affect me, it does concern a friend who is from that country, has relatives there and tries to stay aware of happenings in his old country. So I could forward the info and link to him.
Maybe some stay tuned to DU or other sites 24/7 so they don't miss something that's 12 and a half hours old, but people do have other interests and sometimes you miss a story that happened sometimes more than 12 hours ago. It's nice that someone posts some of that content. It's not as though there's a hurried limit to stories as DU more than occasionally has dupes of many stories to choose from. And there are certainly times when not a lot is updated so it's nice to read something that isn't referred to the same item in ten or fifteen other ways.
And it doesn't seem to happen that often, so maybe rather than complaining to let others know it's "old news" (maybe not to them), it may be news to someone who has other things to do in life.
Thanks for the article REAl_Ecumenist.

(4,435 posts)You know WWI was started by the death of a Serbian. Perhaps Putin is paying tribute to the war gods.
