BEIJING (AP) — Arbitrators have rejected a last-ditch request by American figure skaters to have their silver medals awarded before the end of the Olympics.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport said early Sunday in Beijing that it dismissed the appeal by the nine skaters, who finished second in the team event that was marred by a doping positive by 15-year-old Russian Kamila Valieva.

It did not elaborate on its decision, and said it would release details in upcoming days.

In an earlier decision, CAS had allowed Valieva to compete in the women’s event after her doping positive went public following the Russians’ victory in the team event. The International Olympic Committee responded by saying that no medals would be awarded in any event in which Valieva finished in the top three.

5. The Democratic World should change the Olympics. I suggest

that we permanently locate the Olympics in its original home -- GREECE.

And, that the Democratic World financially bears the cost to build permanent facilities for the games. All the games to be managed by GREECE.

10. Does Greece Have A Climate & Location Suitable For The Winter Olympics?

I don't know, myself. If Greece doesn't, then are there no more Winter games or...?

I agree that neither the Winter nor Summer Olympics certainly should be awarded to countries with fascist/dictatorial governments like mainland China and Russia. It just sends a bad message.

7. This is so unfair, but it doesn't seem there's anything to be done about it.

I'd say overall the Olympics has been downgraded in just about everyone's mind after recent events.

9. I have not watched any of the Olympics this year

which is unsual. I typically watch quite a bit of the events. I was opposed to the Beijing as the venue mostly because of how brutal their goverment is. Forcing people to move from their homes so they could build their stadiums and other event venues. Case in point, the recent controversy with tennis player Peng Shuai. Come on, who believes this was just a "misunderstanding"??

Russia should never have been allowed to participate....full stop! This ROC thing? Come on! Russian Olympic Committee??? The IOC isn't even trying here! Russian has repeatedly shown they contempt for doping and will do anything to skirt the rules. Russia should be banned not for 10 years but for 10 Olympic Games (both summer and winter). Then for the next 5 Olympics they can only participate under the IOC flag and colors. Nothing with any reference to Russia on the uniforms...no badges, no flags, nothting.....zilch, nada!. Then after 5 Olympics where they are 100% clean they can petition to participate under their own name, which the IOC can reject.

The Olympics should have a permanent home, summer & winter, with rotating countries acting as host. This would greatly reduce the cost and give smaller nations a chance to host.

just my 2¢.

I wish I hadn’t. That was the saddest spectacle I think I’ve ever seen in any sport.

All this is laid squarely at the doorstep of the IOC and the artbitration committee. All of it.
