Source: Reuters
Feb 21 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden and Russia's Vladimir Putin have agreed in principle to hold a summit on the Ukraine crisis, the office of French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday.
"The substance will have to be prepared by (U.S.) Secretary Blinken and (Russian Foreign) Minister Lavrov during their meeting on Thursday 24 February," the Elysee palace said.
"It can only be held at the condition that Russia does not invade Ukraine."
Macron will help prepare the contents of the discussions, the statement added.

(12,792 posts)by hyping the "biggest war since 1945," one wonders if the US could be drawn in via Poland?

(7,432 posts)Putin is performing his own version of saber rattling, and he expects that "the west" will be paying very close attention, as is appropriate. But IMO, Putin has way too much to lose by invading, in the short and long term. Even now, he's likely losing millions of dollars a day just maintaining ground forces in late February. Playing soldier games is expensive. If he invades, Russia will be decimated economically, its people will not be happy, and Putin will be looking over his shoulder. Does he want to take these risks? For what? A return to the USSR "Glory Years"?
Nonsense.
Nonsense or batshit crazy, self-destructive results. Take your pick.
BTW, Biden has yet to show his cards. And he's got aces. (What is he NOT saying?)

(4,436 posts)Russia moves from Belaruse and from Eastern Ukraine, and sends tanks into action near Kiev.
Thousands of Ukrainians then flow over the borders trying to escape, including a large group that run into Poland as refugees. Pursuing armored vehicles clash with Polish and American patrols along the Polish/Ukrainian border, and then all bets are off. WW III begins.

(4,436 posts)For the Polish/Ukrainian border-
Continued light rain today, temp 48F.
Low clouds in the area today and tomorrow are poor for Russian air support. Spotty rain continuing until Wednesday afternoon. Dry on Thursday.
Best weather for Russian invasion would be: clouds clearing for Russian air support- Wednesday morning to afternoon. Weather improves by Monday next week.
