U.S. claims Russia has list of Ukrainians 'to be killed or sent to camps' following a military occup

The letter alleges that Moscows post-invasion planning would involve torture, forced disappearances and widespread human suffering. It does not describe the nature of the intelligence that undergirds its assessment.
The new warning comes after the Biden administration, amid weeks of speculation about President Vladimir Putins intentions in Ukraine, said late last week that the Russian leader had decided to launch an invasion.
I would like to bring to your attention disturbing information recently obtained by the United States that indicates that human rights violations and abuses in the aftermath of a further invasion are being planned, said the letter, written by Bathsheba Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. and other international organizations in Geneva.

(2,580 posts)Had to assume Russia would be planning a post-invasion repression. Guess it can't hurt reminding the future freedom fighters they must win or die. No illusions.

(4,343 posts)The U.S. is bad and Russia/Putin good? Putin and his puppets are not humanitarians. I'm convinced our intelligence, considering Russia's past on such matters, is accurate.

(788 posts)but Bush and Powell certainly did, and they set the course for the twenty-plus-year nightmare that was to come. It's not that Powell never did anything else, but it is hard for me to live and let live on something of that scope. The resulting skepticism upthread about intelligence claims is unfortunately one of the many costs of what that generation of neocons and the PNAC did. Major difference: the claim of Putin's list is believable and tracks with observable reality, whereas the WMD claims did not.

(6,906 posts)Or rather, the misinformation war. Propaganda is a gigantic part of war, and why its often called the fog of war. Communication is deliberately shut down.
Preemptively exposing the Putin plan is the best defense is a good offense tactic. Never surrendering the media advantage is even more important in 2022 than the leaflets dropped behind the enemy lines to communicate directly with civilians from the Allies during World War 2.
Im encouraged by the Biden approach. I happened to tune over to a propaganda station where the host was asking the shill guest what possible reason could Biden have for not slapping sanctions on Russia now to prevent war? And the guest said none.
The answer is: if you punish them before they invade there is no incentive any more not to invade. The moron couldnt say even one reason. Not one. Not one theoretical obstacle.

(68,455 posts)situation and the war...England had time to prepare with our aid...had they immediately gone after Hitler I have no doubt, they would have lost as Poland and France did. Seriously have you never considered this?
As much as we hate Putin and what he does...we can't have a war with them over Ukraine which is not in NATO. I expect the American people would not stand, for it and they would be right. You are talking about two nuclear-armed countries going to war...as I said before that is madness.
And consider all the rogue regimes, including China, who have committed Genocide...are we supposed to police the entire world?

(1,568 posts)less than 5 miles from the Ukraine border. Not sure how accurate the location is, or even if the video is legit (hard to say these days), but it seem like a lot of people who would know think it's accurate. Seeing a column of over 50 tanks like that makes it clear what's about to happen. People are going to die in large numbers and lives are going to be ruined. It's the similar sinking feeling in my gut that I had on the days leading up to our invasion of Iraq. Just needless death and destruction. It's also unfortunate to see so many people are supportive of these actions. People who were not quiet during the lead up to Iraq are now either silent about this or are actively cheering it on. Crazy world.
