Australia demands answers from China over alleged laser incident at sea
Source: CNN
Australia is demanding China investigate the alleged use of a laser to "illuminate" an Australian jet in waters off the country's north coast in an incident that threatens to worsen relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Monday he'd called on the Chinese government to explain the "dangerous" and "reckless" act allegedly carried out by a People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) warship last week.
"This was dangerous, it was unprofessional and it was reckless for a professional navy, and we want some answers as to why they did this," Morrison said. "At worst, it was intimidating and bullying."
"They're the ones who need to explain, not just to Australia, but to think of all the countries in our region," he added. "It could occur to anyone else who is just simply doing the normal surveillance of their own Exclusive Economic Zone."

(13,538 posts)And WE must start here.
FORCE companies to get critical mfg OUT of China.
We're sending them our money to be used against the free world.
Bring manufacturing back! So what if price tags increase--we over-consume resources and throw stuff away. Our whole system needs to change to something more sustainable.

(53,540 posts)Maybe China needs a little attention. This all feels like a prelude to World War III. Then add in some major storms and other natural disasters and it has an Armageddon feel to it.
Some days reading the headlines feels like I'm living in a cheesy disaster film.

(53,540 posts)I know that I'd find it farfetched, while assuming it is satire.

(53,540 posts)I can't handle Armageddon movies as I see too many elements of truth in them. Right now, they are looking downright prophetic.

I even like WWII movies because the good guys win over the bad guys.
Right, all those scary disaster movies we thought were far fetched were omens of the future for us.

(53,540 posts)for awhile, when reality is too much to bear. The past few years, it has been really overwhelming.

(82,304 posts)Yes the past couple of years have been overwhelming and very difficult.
I have watched more movies in the past two years than I watched my entire life. Escape time.
PatSeg
(53,540 posts)I never used to watch a whole lot of TV, but now it is a form of escapism and is also considered an antidepressant by many therapists. Of course, that depends on what you watch I suppose.

(82,304 posts)I can watch the news for that stuff.

(53,540 posts)that I may have watched years ago. I can't handle too much violence, cruelty, hate, or oppression.
