'Paper terrorism': Parents against mask mandates bombard school districts with sham legal claims

Source: NBC

Jill Griffin had a panic on her hands.

Teachers and staff members of her school district in Bethalto, Illinois, a small town outside of St. Louis, were suddenly worried that they would not be paid. They had seen videos posted online in which a parent who objected to the district’s Covid mask mandate said that she had filed a claim against the district’s insurance, causing the schools to lose all federal funding.

Griffin, the Bethalto schools superintendent, has spent weeks dealing with the fallout.

“You have district officials who are spending time on things like this, rather than on what we need to be spending time on — making sure that our classrooms are covered right now in the middle of a pandemic,” Griffin said.

Ahhh, the good old days, when a few crazies thought they were a silent majority and the nation's worst problem was a president getting some pleasure.

We have to shine bright lights on them all. A few traps would be helpful, too.

This "sovereign citizen" thing is a direct affront to everything We the People stand for. The 'made guys' this thuggery is producing are oligarchs divvying up everything we hold dear. They want to hand them our government.

Yes, the Republican goal is to destroy public education. This is just one more way for them to attack our schools!

and are funded by the RW wealthy to keep the chaos going.

It's all in an effort to "take back the suburbs" that have been trending purple and blue. But am wondering if this will end up backfiring on them.

I've been seeing that a lot more parents are going to these meeting and basically confronting these people, saying how dare you put my children at risk....who do you think you are.....if you don't like it leave, go to a place were they don't have masks.....go away...and if something happens don't come crying.....

Most parents are not "angry faux activist" types and are just glad to get the kids back in the classroom as long as they feel they are safe. And what is missing out of all of this foaming-at-the-mouth nonsense, are the actual teachers, administrators, support, and maintenance staff, where a number them are potentially vulnerable, particularly when around the younger set who only recently received approval to be vaccinated.

The safety issue has generally been something the employees have demanded and it often becomes a stipulation included in their contracts, as well as a working condition agreed to through arbitration.

but some of these half wits, are well half wits, they have not even come close to thinking that they are here today because there parents got them there shots to be here today...and as for the workers they are just wanting to be protected from there dangerous parent and kids....to me this is non-negotiable, if you want to put your kid into a room and place everyone at risk, fine, go to your "choice " private school and don't take any federal dollars with you......leave go away....

what if face shields had also been an option for anti-vaxxers? A shield would be more effective than wearing nothing and that is what they are wearing -- nothing. IMO the legal arguments posed by these anti-vaxxers would have been harder to sustain if they were also required to fight for their right not to wear a shield.

I have a friend who has refused to mask and has kept his young kids out of school as long as they're required to mask. Guess what, husband, wife, and three kids now have COVID. Hard to be sympathetic for their plight.

these anti-vaxers and maskers put into this amazes me. I hate wearing a mask and think they don't do much, but to me it's just easier to put the stupid mask on when I have to. No way am I about to not do something I want to because a mask is required. All this fighting, protesting and suing... I just don't get it over something that bottom line is not that big a deal.

when their children contract COVID and die. Even if they recover, there are long term consequences on their bodies. These parents are like the people who believe that they and their children and are immune to the virus. They know this because Fox Snooze and Facebook tell them so.

I feel so sorry for the children. They depend on their parents to keep them safe.

I work as a sub in local schools. The district has a mandatory masking requirement, but if they give in to political pressure I won't be able to continue to do this job. I'm 72, and I won't risk my life for these parents.
