UK says: The Russian invasion of Ukraine has begun

LONDON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Russia's invasion of Ukraine has already begun so Britain will impose sanctions on Russia, a senior British minister said on Tuesday as Prime Minister Boris Johnson chaired an emergency government response meeting over the Ukraine crisis.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the deployment of troops to two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine after recognizing them as independent on Monday, accelerating a crisis the West fears could unleash a major war. read more
A Reuters witness saw tanks and other military hardware moving through the separatist-controlled city of Donetsk after Putin formally recognized the breakaway regions and ordered the deployment of Russian forces to "keep the peace".

Assistance such as trainers? Probably but actual combat troops? Unlikely.

(17,757 posts)Putin is just sticking his toe in to test the temperature of the water. He should find out that it is frozen, cold and hard.
This is like Mexico recognizing the independence of Texas, and moving in troops to "keep the peace." I think that some of us would consider it an invasion.
