Most Americans oppose major role in Russia-Ukraine conflict

Source: The Hill

Amajority of Americans oppose a major U.S. role in the ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, according to a new Associated Press-NORC poll released on Wednesday.

The AP-NORC poll shows 52 percent of Americans approve of a minor role in Ukraine, while 26 percent are supportive of a major role, and 20 percent do not approve of any U.S. role in the Eastern European nation.

The results are similar between both Democrats and Republicans, with more than half of voters on each side of the political aisle approving of a minor role in Ukraine. But 32 percent of Democrats support a major role in Ukraine compared to 22 percent of Republicans.

After Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday recognized two breakaway territories in eastern Ukraine as independent and moved troops into the region, Biden slapped multiple sanctions on Russia, including one on the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline to Germany.

the fucking rag that hired John Solomon.

Putin is invading Ukraine to bring down president Biden and the Democrats.

Putin's #1 goal is to destroy democracy in the United States.

If fucking people won't get behind our president's efforts to keep the peace then they are pro-autocracy.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it is Putin who is invading a sovereign nation and not president Biden.

Before Pearl Harbor a lot of Americans did not want to get involved in another European War.

WW1 was only 20 some years before.

President Roosevelt had to get creative to help England.

The Lend Lease Act.

He knew a war was coming.

He did start up the draft early.

I had a neighbor who was a kid in the Navy before the WW2 started. In the Atlantic Ocean fighting Nazis already.

We were involved early but not in open ways.

It took Pearl Harbor to wake up America.

8. Interesting facts of History

Russia and China were both allies during WWII. Russia with as much as 27M deaths. China with as much as 18M deaths. USA with about 400K deaths. Yet we in the USA claim to have won WWII. I suppose China and Russia may think we have a lot of hubris. It's true we ended the war with Japan with Nukes. But the war in Europe would have been ended by the Russians if we had not been there. True that we shipped them arms and ammunition. Russia doesn't have any reason to like us claiming their victory and sacrifice in WWII (which led to the cold war), and the USA's one upsmanship. This part of history does not justify Putin's aggressiveness in Ukraine and no American should accept it. Can't we all just get along?

If the sole metric defining winning WWII was losses, then yes, the Soviets and Chinese "won" the war.

The reality is that each of the Allies contributed to defeating Hitler.

Great Britain

The British contributed a large amount of technical know-how to the Allies including radar, the Mulberries, supercharged Merlin engines, underwater fuel pipelines, bombes for decrypting ENIGMA traffic, high frequency/direction finding (“huff duff”) as well as numerable intelligence coups.

Additionally, Britain provided a springboard for the invasion of Western Europe opening up a second front against the Axis.

United States

The US provided an immense amount of raw materials and finished goods to the Allies. Some examples:

~1,200 warships (all while building ~5,300 transport vessels)
297,000 aircraft
193,000 artillery pieces
86,000 tanks
806,000 2 1/2 ton trucks

Additionally, the US was able to mass produce a lot of the British innovations. For example: NCR in Dayton, OH produced the wound rotors necessary to run the bombes that were necessary to decode ENIGMA traffic fast enough to provide real time, actionable intelligence. NCR fed both Bletchley Park (HQ of GC&CS) as well as the US equivalent.

The US sent no fewer than 300,000 motor vehicles to the USSR (as well as 11000 planes and 6000 tanks and tank destroyers).

USSR

They tied up, killed or captured millions of German troops which could have been deployed against Allied advances from the west and south.

Stalin, at the Tehran Conference, stated that “our victory would not have been possible” without American industrial war production.

they would not have beaten the Germans, even Stalin said that without the US industrial output, they could not have won.

The defeat of the Axis powers was a collaborative effort by the Allies.

I believe a united NATO response to bolster neighbor's on Russia's border, and severe and precisely targeted economic sanctions will wind the day. But Ukrainians may suffer a great deal in the process.

Finally sanction the export of fossil fuels from Russia. I am willing to pay the fuckers 7 dollars a gallon.

... Russia’s military buildup along the Ukrainian border over the last few months coincides with a steady rise in Putin’s popularity.

Approximately 69% of Russians now approve of Putin, compared to the 61% who approved of him in August 2021, according to Russian polling agency the Levada Center. And 29% of Russians disapprove of Putin, down from 37% in August 2021. The polling group is the leading independent sociological research organization in Russia and is widely respected by many scholars, including myself.

Support for Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and his cabinet also increased moderately in the same time period.

The Russian public largely believes that the Kremlin is defending Russia by standing up to the West...
