U.N. Security Council to vote on resolution condemning Russia, U.S. official says.
Source: New York Times
The resolution, written and led by the United States, would impose legally binding obligations on Russia under Chapter VII of the U.N. charter, which provides a framework for the council to act when world security is threatened in order to maintain or restore international peace and security.
The text of the resolution was circulated among the 15-member council on Thursday.
The resolution would condemn, in the strongest terms possible, Russias aggression, invasion and violation of Ukraines sovereignty, according to the U.S. official. It reaffirms the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine. And it requires the Russian Federation immediately, completely, and unconditionally to withdraw its forces."

Don't tell me what happens; I want to be surprised when Russia vetoes it.

(823 posts)that entangles NATO and the US so that they may move on Taiwan while we are otherwise occupied. This would not work as we can fight two battles at once, that is what our military is designed for. We have troops and equipment prepositioned around the world...and we would not be alone in that war.

(23,083 posts)I don't think they would risk their investment going bad if they hurt the US so we can't repay them or pay the interest costs. Now, they might do something limited. They aren't all in on supporting Russia, don't go totally along with Putin's BS, and are encouraging an end to the fighting, though they won't tell the truth about that part.
I so hope you are wrong. I think we are bound by treaty to support Taiwan.

(12,523 posts)Without the US, Canada, UK, AU & a few others; its toothless.
But if EVERYONE voted for this resolution it would at least be noticed by Putin. NK is a joke, as is Syria. Curious to see what China, Iran & a couple others vote.
