Ukraine conflict: Many misleading images have been shared online
Source: BBC
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has led to false or misleading videos and photographs being posted on social media claiming to be from the conflict.
Some of those checked by the BBC include footage from previous conflicts in Ukraine or elsewhere in the world, and images of troops on exercises.
Social media platforms such as Twitter seem to be taking a proactive role in confronting misleading content, removing several videos shown to be misleading by fact-checkers and researchers.

Be careful not to spread misleading images or propaganda, which always seems to pop up in wartime since the advent of social media.

This is part of Putin's scheme. A few idiots on social media can sow plenty of dissent and chaos with barely any shots being fired.

(22,652 posts)I called the news hotline to report their error. I guess I'll have to check later to see if they admit their mistake and if they're going to correct it. TV "personality" stations with little regard for actual news reporting have ruined us in so many ways. More of the dumbing down of America. It's tragic and embarrassing.

(714 posts)If I were of the mind to share misleading things, it wouldn't be images.
I'd be out on @Russia Twitter, Brietbart, Trump's new social media site, etc. complaining about the Biden administration offering $1,000,000 and American citizenship to any Russian pilot who brings his airplane to a NATO nation and the $100,000 per person plus American citizenship to any Russian tank or armored crew bringing their vehicle to a NATO nation.
And I'd point out that even though that might have worked in the Vietnam War, and even though Russians are White and are Christians, that doesn't mean that I want to spend my tax money to bring them over here.
Then I'd invite all my friends and acquaintances to those sites to rudely argue the pros and cons of "Biden's plan" until the idea took a life of its own on the right.
