House panel requests Trump WH records from National Archives

By FARNOUSH AMIRI

WASHINGTON (AP) — A congressional oversight committee sought additional documents Friday from the National Archives related to former President Donald Trump’s handling of White House records as the panel looks to expand its investigation into his handling of sensitive and even classified information.

The House Committee on Oversight and Reform sent a letter to the archivist, laying out a series of document requests needed to determine if the former president violated federal records laws when he took 15 boxes of White House records to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida after leaving office last year.

The committee needs additional documents and information uniquely available from the National Archives and Records Administration “to investigate the full extent of this conduct and determine what additional steps, including potential legislative reforms, may be needed to ensure the preservation of presidential records for the American people,” Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., the chairwoman of the Oversight Committee, wrote in the letter.

Among the items requested is a detailed account of the contents of the more than a dozen boxes recovered by the archives from Mar-a-Lago, all presidential records Trump had attempted to destroy, communication records made on personal devices and unofficial messaging systems between White House aides including former chief of staff Mark Meadows, counsel Don McGahn and lawyer Pat Cipollone.

1. I want to know whether any of the classified documents pertained to Russia and Putin.

Or to US intelligence assessments of US and EU reactions to a potential Russian invasion of Ukraine. If so, he has already shared the information with Putin, and he is guilty of treason at the highest level. Proving that he shared them would probably be difficult, but the investigation needs to happen anyway. We can’t just sweep the theft of classified intelligence under the rug.

4. Probably better than the NY lawyers who resigned rather than prosecute Trump.

The creature of government may have become too gargantuan to regulate, or even clean, itself. A bloated pillowy belly bag of translucent skin, corruption fomenting in the fungal folds where dwell those hiding and those seeking.

the 2 excellent NY prosecutors resigned, most likely, because Alvin Bragg had told them to slow down, told them not to bring anyone before the grand jury. This went on for a month, doing nothing, so it appears, the prosecutors resigned in protest. Those 2 prosecutors were top notch people.

6. Thank you for the correction. But where does this leave that investigation?

Is it possible to go so slow as to actually stop but the fact of the stoppage is never known because the news stops as well? Are all the hopes of so many being strung along for a ride? Is this the SDNY version of string theory?

Don't know those answers but I do know that if only Cohen is jailed, Trump wins.

there is a time line involved here.

Cohen was jailed for a different crime and the statute of limitations has run out for Trump to be prosecuted for the same crime.

House Committee: lots of hat, good herd, strong bulls. But, fenced in.

DOJ, no fuckin’ hat, all steers, timid, tippy toe, bolt when spooked.

NY: wtf.

What about the movers who packed up those 15 boxes? I'm betting they didn't have security clearances. You know TFG didn't do it himself!
