North Carolina GOP seeks Supreme Court intervention in voting map dispute
Source: The Hill
Top Republican lawmakers in North Carolina on Friday asked the Supreme Court to halt state court rulings that struck down new GOP-drawn voting districts as unfairly partisan and replaced the Republican map with one drawn by outside experts.
In their emergency filing, GOP lawmakers asked the court to temporarily block the state court-imposed map while the justices consider a forthcoming appeal.
The United States Constitution is clear state legislatures, not state judges, are responsible for setting the rules governing elections, North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore, one of the applicants, said in a statement. By striking the General Assemblys congressional map and redrawing their own, with the help of Democrat partisans, the courts have, once again, violated the separation of powers.
Chief Justice John Roberts, who handles emergency matters from North Carolina, asked the respondents in the case a group of North Carolina Democratic voters and voting rights advocates to respond by Wednesday.

(22,100 posts)1. Supreme Court has already said that states are the last recourse in election matters. What are
they banking on, that most of the republican-appointed justices will vote in their favor?

Oh, John the Pirate Roberts, the albatross around your neck whispers: 'legacy is as legacy does.'

The courts stepped in because the map as drawn was completely unconstitutional. They just have to cheat, don't they? They know they won't win shiat without doing it.

to lay out districts that help them stay in power like nobility.

Are we not fighting for our democracy like Ukraine. Its obvious Putin attacked us when the only people in the world praising Putin is the GQP. We are an embarrassment to the world we think we lead. If we had a sliver of courage like the women in Ukraine standing up to Russian soldiers and Putin, we may have a chance.

Supreme Court says they can't interfere. States who have fair maps or maps that favor Democrats, Supreme Court rules in favor of republicans.
