Kazakhstan is denying a request for its troops to join the Russian offensive, NBC has reported.

Source: Guardian

The former Soviet Republic state has also refused to join Putin’s recognition of Luhansk and Donetsk as independent states, his pretext for the hostility.

A significant and interesting move here, from one of Russia’s closest allies.

The Russians sent in troops to help the Kazakh government hold on to power. Perhaps they're afraid of touching off another revolt if they send their people to get killed in Pootie's military adventure.

going to be worthless and his assets are going to be frozen and all of the things that he has his fingers in are now going to be frozen. He is in trouble. And if the Georgians protesting what is happening and Kazakhstan not doing his bidding....he needs to take Kyiv quickly and I just don't see it, and if he does and install's a puppet government they are not going to last and he will lose more capital....they thru out one puppet government.....and there are some in Russia that are openly taking on his control.....he may win, but he will lose in the end .....

That's gonna make Pooty mad! Your next Kazakhstan.

But it also might be showing that the invasion is being repelled successfully by the Ukrainians. Pooty's hurting for troops?

God let it be so!!

he's trying to minimize the loss of Russian troops to avoid a harsh rebuke from the Russian population if the casualties become significant. He has more than enough Russian troops to commit if he so desires.

I don't think he expected it would go this far. It reminds me of George Costanza in the Seinfeld episode "The Wizard." ( Seinfeld-The Wizard ) Putin just keeps taking it further and further because he feels he has no other options than to gamble his way to the other side ultimately acquiescing.

and modern warfare is mindbogglingly expensive. The "Ghost of Kyiv" purportedly downed 5 Russian aircraft on the first day of combat. At 20 to 30 million a pop, that single Ukranian aviator cost Putin 100 to 150 million US. He may run out of cash before he runs out of cannon fodder.
