Maersk considers suspending container shipments to Russia
Source: Reuters
COPENHAGEN, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Shipping group Maersk (MAERSKb.CO) said on Monday it was considering suspending all container bookings in and out of Russia in response to Western economic sanctions on Moscow following its invasion of Ukraine.
The company said it was closely monitoring the fast-evolving sanctions and restrictions imposed against Russia, and making preparations to comply with them.
"Our preparations include a possible suspension of Maersk bookings to and from Russia on ocean and inland," Maersk said in a statement.
Maersk, which handles roughly one in six containers shipped worldwide, said it was focusing on safeguarding types of containers and cold chain operations that "include important goods such as groceries and pharmaceuticals."

This would be a significant blow to Russia in many ways.

(31,798 posts)The US Sanctions and Denied Parties lists (OFAC, BIS) apply to anyone or any business that does business with bad actors.
If they don't want the flags on their ships to get put on the denied list for US Businesses - they better do it and damn quick.

(1,832 posts)... transporting arms for the U.S. as well as for Russia is standard for them, also for North Korea.
If they stop doing a trade, it is because the profit there is not enough, not ideological.

(5,857 posts)almost completely destroyed Maersks' IT during the 2014 invasion of Ukraine as collateral damage. If it weren't for one domain controller that happened to be offline due to internet problems the company would have either been sunk or severely damaged (already it cost hundreds of millions).
