Defense: FBI knew Whitmer kidnap suspects were 'stoned' crazy talkers

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Detroit Free Press

The suspects charged with plotting to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer were stoners who got so high that they talked about attaching Whitmer to a kite and flying her over a lake, about barking in the woods to get her to come out of her house, or playing loud music at night to get her attention, a defense lawyer argued Wednesday.

"The FBI knew this was stoned crazy talk," defense attorney Joshua Blanchard told the jury, arguing the FBI set up the suspects with an undercover informant who also got high with them.

The FBI had many opportunities to shut down this investigation, and should have done so, Blanchard told jurors. But the government was hell bent on building a case that it knew didn't exist, he argued, alleging there were many pot-induced conversations that should have prompted the FBI to call off the investigation.

The world also knows that Putin is a delusional, evil fuck. And he bombed a children’s hospital. By the defense’s reasoning, that means Putin can’t be tried for war crimes.

Being stupid and stoned shouldn’t be a stay out of jail free defense .

First, "Reefer Madness" was a movie, one so bad it became a cult classic and it was a total lie, produced by scared old white men. While pot produces nasty side effects in some people (anxiety, racing heart, vomiting with high THC doses), most people just lay back and enjoy the buzz.

Second, these "stoners" had high powered weapons, military gear, lots of ammo, and (if I'm not having a senior moment) some bomb making materials. These were not idle dreamers. These were men who were assembling the means to act on their fantasies and that, dear counselor, is against the law.
