WASHINGTONPresident Biden and his fellow Democrats have lost ground to Republicans on several of the issues most important to voters, a new Wall Street Journal poll finds, a troubling sign for the party seeking to extend its controlling majority of Congress for another two years.
The new survey showed that 57% of voters remained unhappy with Mr. Bidens job performance, despite favorable marks for the presidents response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and a recent State of the Union speech, which provided him an opportunity to directly speak to millions of Americans. Just 42% said they approved of Mr. Bidens performance in office, which was virtually unchanged from the previous Journal poll in mid-November.
Meanwhile, Democratic advantages narrowed over Republicans on issues related to improving education and the Covid-19 response. A 16-percentage-point Democratic edge on which party would best handle the pandemic was down to 11 points, while a 9-percentage-point lead on education issues was down to 5 points.
When asked about which party was best able to protect middle-class families, the 5-point advantage for Democrats four months ago evaporated and left the parties essentially tied on the question.

Once again, Democrats end up suffering for having to clean up after Republicans inheriting a growing deficit caused by huge tax cuts, gas prices going up due to a combination of fuel efficiency roll backs coupled with deals with the OPEC nations to restrict gas production, and conspiring with Putin to facilitate an invasion of the Ukraine.
Indeed, whether it is trying to undermine Democracy at home, cozying up to tyrants abroad, trying to increase US dependence on fossil fuels produced by autocratic nations, Republicans policies are hurting Americans. However, thanks to multi-billion dollar right wing media infrastructure, millions of Americans remain in the dark in the same manner as Russians who are unaware of the war their country is waging.
The propaganda by itself is bad, but what makes it worse is that many Republicans appear to believe their own propaganda, which just guarantees that the next crisis will be just as poorly handles as Trump's handline of the COVID pandemic where every response to a crisis is to deny that it exists and blame, rather than find solutions.

This leads me to believe ignorance is gaining on intelligence.

(159 posts)I just saw an article that showed 7 major polls in the last couple of days on the "Generic Ballot", Democrats vs. Republican.
It had the democrats LEADING in the generic polls, by a few percentage points, a new and recent surge.
I know you want links. I have looked at so many articles today that I can't remember where it was.
But its real. I saw it today.
Take the polls with a grain of salt. No, better still, take them with a wad of toilet paper.
Democrats will win this year.
The media and the pundits are trying to "manifest" (see yoga references) a win for themselves. We will manifest a bigger lead for Democrats instead.

(98,883 posts)the economy than Democrats seems strange indeed, since republicans havent produced any economic plan.
The Wall Street Journal poll was conducted by the firms Impact Research and Fabrizio, Lee & Associates, who surveyed 1,500 respondents, drawn from a list of known, registered voters, from March 2-7. Half the respondents were interviewed on their cellphones. One-quarter were reached by text on their cellphones and completed an internet survey. One-quarter of respondents were interviewed by landline phone. The margin of error for the full sample was plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
It also looks like these pollsters were pollsters for trump:

How can Republicans be considered to be better at fixing the economy why they havent even put forward a plan to do so?
What are their plans for anything other than more tax cuts for the rich?

(71 posts)It seems to me that even with more easy access to information than ever before, people are less engaged in "doing" democracy (not much other than voting) and that is why it is so easy for anti-democratic efforts to prevail. Fascism and oligarchy/authoritarian government seems to be a default and needs to be constantly countered by activism. Democracy should occur throughout our society - schools should not be lead by one person (the principal), companies and businesses should not be lead by one CEO representing investors, etc. and even clubs/social organizations need to incorporate a democratic consensus-building process. Democracy is hard but if it is experienced every day, we can get good at it. Just my thought.

(29,785 posts)by consensus of the forum hosts. Poll results should not, as a rule, be posted in LBN. However, news may be so important that an exception is warranted, for example if it looks like we're losing control of the Senate or there's a dramatic shift late in the game in a large sample, gold standard poll. These instances are rare.
