House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Friday said Republicans will remove Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee if the GOP secures a majority in the November midterm elections.

McCarthy, the top House Republican, said during a press conference that Schiff's presence and contributions politicized the committee. Schiff currently serves as the panel's chair.

"Why is he still chair of the committee and why is he still even on the committee? In a new Congress, if it's a new majority, he will not be," McCarthy said.

"You cannot make this committee political, you cannot use it as a position of chairman to lie, and you should be focused on what the American people want you to be focused on around the world," he continued.

Now for the problem the GOP faces, and it's huge: In general the party out of power has by this point in the election cycle published some sort of a manifesto detailing all the things they plan to do for/to the country if we only let them be in charge for a while. Witness the Contract with America (or is that "on America"? With Republicans it's hard to say). I mean, 90 percent of it was bad and 10 percent was both bad and unconstitutional, but you at least had some inkling of their intentions. But with this batch of Republicans, the only thing it seems like they want to do is to halt governance in the US for two years then tell us President Biden wasn't doing anything for the country so we need to put Trump back in.

"We don't do shit, and if you put us in charge of Congress we'll do even less of it" doesn't sound like a winning campaign strategy to me, but it seems to be what they're running on.
