(20,056 posts)In the pic she's posing in them during a professional photo shoot. Also, during the campaign they became a trademark of hers along with pearls, especially the Tahitian ones she wore so much.
They're something which makes her more down to earth and like the rest of us.
Kamala Harriss nomination as Joe Bidens running mate is historic: the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India, she is the first woman of colour to be on a major partys presidential ticket. She is also the first to prominently wear sneakers on the campaign trail.
It is a small sartorial detail, but it is linked to the larger cultural moment in which we live. Sneakers are a form of footwear finding their way into many womens closets as part of a larger challenge to outmoded concepts of femininity, says Elizabeth Semmelhack, the author of Sneaker X Culture: Collab. Traditionally, there is a standard shoe etiquette for women in political office either alpha (see: Nancy Pelosis stilettos, Theresa Mays leopard print heels) or conservative (Elizabeth Warrens slide sandals, Hillary Clintons pantsuit-matching kitten heels). Semmelhack believes Harriss shoes signal action. The sneakers are acting as the sartorial equivalent of being willing to roll up her sleeves, she says. They suggest Harris is a woman of action.
Harriss preference for non-traditional footwear was first seen last year when she was a Democratic presidential hopeful, and appeared in Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars. As she told The Cut: I run through airports in my Converse sneakers. I have a whole collection of Chuck Taylors: a black leather pair, a white pair, I have the kind that dont lace, the kind that do lace, the kind I wear in the hot weather, the kind I wear in the cold weather, and the platform kind for when Im wearing a pantsuit.

More:
On a recent episode of Desus & Mero, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris called for swift action to control COVID-19, sweeping police reform, and a robust plan to bridge the racial wealth gap. Then she made a very compelling case for Chuck Taylors.
"I just love them!" she told the talk show hosts, lifting her low-tops up in the air to prove it. "It's either Chucks or heels... Always has been."
The senator's obsession with sneakers is not new news. Two years ago she proudly told The Cut about her Converse "collection," including a black leather pair, a white pair, the kind that dont lace, the kind that do lace, the ones she wears in hot weather, the ones she wears in cold weather, and her platforms that go with pantsuits.
She's known for traversing the country in comfortable kicks, allowing her to dance at the 2019 Des Moines Steak Fry and march in the San Francisco's Pride parade. But it wasn't until Harris hit the campaign trail last month as Democratic vice-presidential nominee that she was dubbed "a real boss" for her footwear.

(51,550 posts)Kamala is well known for campaigning in chucks and jeans. She wore suits as a Senator and VP. This feels like the douchebags claiming Zelenskyy is unpresidential for wearing tshirts during a bloody war instead of suits and ties.
Any snubs from Biden's circle might be due to their heated exchanges during the primaries. Everyone including me thought she was off the VP shortlist after that.
Politico is not a very reliable source. Their usual story is "dems in disarray".

GOP really hates her a lot and have made up their minds that anything she does is illegitimate. So this could be some election year mudslinging. Good to get this out of the way long before November.
