Ukraine War: Putin demands Mariupol surrender to end shelling

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that shelling of the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol will only end when Ukrainian troops surrender.

Mr Putin made the comments during an hour long phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday night, the Kremlin said in a statement.

But French officials said the Russian leader had agreed to consider plans to evacuate civilians from the city.

It comes as new satellite photos showed the destruction caused by the shelling.

The images, released by the Earth observation company Maxar, showed that residential areas have been reduced to rubble and highlighted Russian artillery cannons in firing positions on the outskirts of the city.

6. You do realize that planes need pilots who take time to learn to fly and that even existing pilots

need training to fly a new type of jet as they all handle somewhat differently.
Mind you I am not saying no to your proposal just pointing out the problems it's going to suffer from that will hinder it in being fully effective.
Now what is more likely to help is even tougher sanctions and travel bans to and from Russia including but not limited to sanctioning airlines including any parent companies that try to help Russia evade sanctions.
That and make it clear that the sanctions will not be eased even a little until Russia withdraws from all territory that was internationally recognized as Ukrainian territory which includes the Crimean.
Furthermore if Russia wants sanctions to be fully dropped all officers and soldiers accused of war crimes need to be arrested and put on trial before international courts not to mention Putin and some in his cabinet and ministries.

Even assuming they can adapt fast enough we would still need to provide them as well as a ton of spare parts and all of that will take time, time that they might not really have which is why more aggressive sanctions towards Russia now might prove to be more of more help.

I know it is an escalation, but something needs to be done to wake up the Russian public to what Putin is doing in Ukraine.

What kind of weapons would Ukraine need in order to hit Russian cities? Given them those weapons and see how long Putin lasts.

I can see the last ditch defense of Mariupol, kids in ruined high rises throwing rubble. That's no joke, I've seen what a brick thrown off a 4 story building at a police car can do.

Besides, if Ukraine troops are freed from the northern Kyiv suburbs, they'll head right to Mariupol, making the Russians fight on two fronts
