US Navy will name a ship after Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Source: CNN
(CNN)The late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg served more than two decades on the US Supreme Court, developed a rock star status and drew standing ovations when she spoke in public. Now the late "Notorious R.B.G." will add another entry to her long list of accomplishments.
The Navy will name a ship after her.
On the final day of women's history month, the Navy announced that the USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be a John Lewis-class replenishment oiler ship, designated T-AO 212.
"It is my absolute honor to name the next [replenishment oiler] after the Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg," said Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro in a statement. "She is a historic figure who vigorously advocated for women's rights and gender equality."

(1,690 posts)Fucking cool. In addition to being a lifelong democrat I'm also a lifelong women's advocate ( they usually go hand-in-hand). I'm rendering a salute to the US NS Ruth Bader Ginsburg, my major corp business executive wife and daughter and all other women that are doing well climbing the ladder showing their stuff. It's never been easy for them thanks to the ton of week dick men running around but they press on and my hats off to all of them.

They were apoplectic when the sub was launched.
I loved it.

(15,350 posts)FYI - Before a Naval Officer can command and Aircraft Carrier, they must complete a Commanding Officer tour on a "deep draft" ship. Most often this is an Oilier.

(9,995 posts)They should really call it the "Notorious RBG" but if I were a sailor I'd certainly be proud to serve on the SS Ginsburg.
