DeSantis slams special legislation for Disney. But his staff helped write it
Source: Miami Herald/Emily L. Mahoney
Gov. Ron DeSantis continued escalating his battle against The Walt Disney Co. this week, calling for a new era in Florida where the company no longer gets to wield its mighty influence and dictate policy to state leaders.
He singled out a special carveout that legislators approved for Disney in a 2021 bill that aimed to crack down on what DeSantis said was too many conservatives having their accounts banned by Big Tech social media companies.
(snip)
But DeSantis own staff helped write it.
Emails between staff working for the governors office and the House Commerce Committee show that DeSantis legislative affairs director, Stephanie Kopelousos, was in communication with Disney to propose bill language written by the company. The emails were first reported by the Seeking Rents newsletter, which shared them with the Tampa Bay Times.

(17,428 posts)They've spent decades funding Retrumplican politicians and policies.
In a fight between Disney and Retrumplicans, I don't care who wins, I am just rooting for injuries.
Kind of like those "woke" corporations in Georgia that were so outraged by Georgia's Jim Crow 2.0 they stopped funding Retrumplicans for a minute.
Look, it's pretty fucking simple...
Nothing will change. Racism, fascism, misogyny, hatred and white supremacy...NONE OF IT...will change, unless and until we make racism, fascism, misogyny, hatred and white supremacy unprofitable to the corporations, businesses and individuals that fund it
It's not like Disney, Home Depot, FEDEX, Delta, Publix, Kroger and others didn't know who they were supporting with their campaign donations over the past 40 years.
If they cared one fuck about human decency, they wouldn't have made the Retrumplican Party the powerful beast it is today.

I can only pray, but I dont know what for.... I hope he, Abbott and slobfather take each other out!

(4,654 posts)Im a FL native from Ft. Lauderdale. I was nine when DW opened its gates. However, now I live in the panhandle where $$ are derived from high end tourism, and they think DeSatan is a unicorn who shoots out rainbows from his ass. To most of the yokums here Disney World is a low end vacation. Its sad how fractured this beautiful state has become. I get what youre saying about DW. I hope its enough to turn the vote.

(4,109 posts)and therefore have the right to free speech. The (Republican) Supreme Court said so.
This is how Republicans roll. They see something they don't like, they mock it then force people (through legislation) to do what they say. And as a corollary they go ahead and do what they prohibit other folks from doing (abortions, extramarital affairs and so on).
