Biden: Putin should face war crimes trial for Bucha

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Monday called for war crimes trial against Russia President Vladimir Putin and said he’d seek more sanctions after reported atrocities in Ukraine.

“You saw what happened in Bucha,” Biden said. He added that Putin “is a war criminal”

Biden’s comments to reporters came after Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Bucha, one of the towns surrounding Kyiv where Ukrainian officials say the bodies of civilians have been found. Zelenskyy called the Russian actions “genocide” and called for the West to apply tougher sanctions against Russia.

The bodies of 410 civilians have been removed from Kyiv-area towns that were recently retaken from Russian forces, Ukraine’s prosecutor-general, Iryna Venediktova, said. Associated Press journalists saw the bodies of at least 21 people in various spots around Bucha, northwest of the capital.

And, making an offer to Russian fat cats won't change a thing, since they are probably complicit. They probably already held the lottery carving up Ukraine.

week ago when he said Putin must go. I’m in agreement though. There are some principles that I cannot compromise, no matter the cost. The horrendous atrocities being carried out by Russian troops against Ukrainian civilians is probably highest among violated principles that I simply do not have it in me to bend on. Putin sent those troop into Ukraine, he created this war and issued the order to invade and take down the Ukrainian government. The buck stops with him.

I’m with Joe. Putin is a war criminal. I’m glad and proud that Joe said so.

You didn't know? Read ...Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown" (about murder of Native Americans....
..........in 1800s)

One of the most horrible & sad books that I have ever read.

.........warning: if you read it, you will ....NEVER FORGET IT...NEVER!!........................................

most ironic part of the story is .....that they even named a town after the leader of the massacre at Wounded Knee...John Evens..

I've also read "The Decline and Fall of the Third Reich," another depressingly horrible book. I've read "The Killing Fields," and others.

There has to be a time when massacres and wanton human butchery comes to an end. There has to be a time when the good and moral people stand up to the evil and say "Never again!" Putin cannot be allowed to continue on this path.

Leaders rarely if ever face consequences for their actions, and Putin will never face the ICC.

To wit: Iraq II was a War Crime as surely as Ukraine is.

Nevertheless, in light of our nation’s internal and international history, it is prudent to let other nations raise the loudest voices about war crimes. We must continue working hard on humanitarian supply chain assistance, defensive weapons acquisitions, and intelligence gathering for Ukraine. I say this because, IMO we have no moral high ground to shout from.

I think it would be incredibly naive to think there isn't much worse to come. In Bucha, from what I've read, anything less than submission was met with a bullet in the head. In Eastern Ukraine, if they want to take it and govern, I'd expect that to be done much more systematically.

And then if you can see something like that coming, wouldn't it be good to do something to avert it? I'd like to see Ukraine supplied with Exocets, so that the Russian navy could find the bottom of the ocean somewhere. And better anti-aircraft defenses, and better everything, really. They are seriously fighting the war right now so that Europe doesn't have to. But if they lose it just gets worse. Autocracy spreads like cancer, as we've seen.

and no hesitation. IMO, we should not reach back into our history and fail to speak up just because our ancestors did something really bad. We know right from wrong. The way to correct mistakes is to move forward and don't repeat the mistakes.

The world sat and watched Hitler do unspeakable things. Here we are, sitting and watching. Yeah, we have given military gear and sanctions, and that is NOT A SMALL gesture, not by far. But, we have to do more. You feel it, I feel it, the UN feels it.

The world is distracted from some really heavy problems right now, because of Putin and his damned territory expansion. KICK HIS ASS OUT OF UKRAINE, all of Ukraine, and whatever Moldova wants back, and that sliver of Georgia they took. Putin will be lucky if we don't decide to just eff it and go all the way to Moscow. Then, he can be sailing on a yacht somewhere wondering what port he can make.

Call for indictments in the Hague and the ICC and declare him a war criminal. That is the next step, along with suspension from the UN. When we are treated to the horrible spectacle of yet another city where civilians have been slaughtered after capture, we will not be able to stand ourselves if we do not DO SOMETHING. Do it now.

Our President speaks the truth. Zelensky speaks the truth. This was a war of choice for Putin. It is now becoming a war of choice for Russia.

You know, Russia isn't the only problem that Biden is handling right now. He is a lot tougher than he ever appeared to be. How lucky we are that we elected him. And, Kamala! We can't let them down by losing at Midterms. It is Spring now. Time to saddle up and beat the GOP!
