GOP Rep. Upton, who voted to impeach Trump, will not seek reelection
Source: Washington Post
Upton announced his decision on the House floor Tuesday morning and in an email to supporters.
Even the best stories has a last chapter. This is it for me, Upton said. Thanks, again, to the people of my district who placed their faith and confidence in me all these great years.
Upton, who has served since 1987, also backed the bipartisan infrastructure bill and received death threats afterward for helping President Biden get a legislative win.

R+10 district
Shit, I was hoping a democrat might have a shot in that district, but very difficult at +10 Republican.

(43,049 posts)Hopefully if he/she is too batshit, the democrat could win. Its happened before, an example would be Claire McCaskills improbable win against a Republican extremist.

(40,484 posts)Since Portman announced his retirement from the Senate.. Not that I like anything about Portman but at least he wasnt batshit crazy. A real cesspool of clown car candidates have swooped in all vying to take his place on the GOP side, and they are falling all over each other claiming who loves Trump the most. You would think Ryan would be a shoo in, but unfortunately the Trumpy influence still looms large in Ohio. Its beyond me how that orange nut bag has so much influence over the Republican Party.

Us will be like Russia if all goes according to trumpism.

(13,747 posts)Repug voters (our neighbors) are the ones that scare these repug politicians. These repug voters are desperate to get a fascist dictator installed so they can start exterminating Democrats and Liberals. There will be death squads if they take power.

(2,068 posts)It seems they are aching for a civil war, so they can shoot their neighbors with impunity. One would think that Pense would know how fast they can turn on sanity.

(17,585 posts)Do you know if the redrawn district will be at all possible for a Dem to win in?
Dave Bonior used to be my rep but the district was redrawn and now we got Looney Toons Lisa McClain.

(37,945 posts)A moderate Dem would be the best candidate over there, IMO.

(169,274 posts)considering the turnover in there over the years. He was a biggy on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and used to work with John Dingell and then later Dingell's wife Debbie, who took over his seat. He was one of the "annoying Republicans" but not the performance-artist batshit crazy type like another of his contemporaries there - Joe Barton (also on Energy and Commerce before retiring from Congress) who sparred with Democrat Henry Waxman (now long gone from Congress and another on that Committee).

(6,699 posts)Wish we could turn it. I'm getting damned good and scared as to what could happen to the congressional races in November. Somehow, we need to hammer our message to the masses of ill-informed dumb asses who just want to "own the libs". They are fucking this country over....seriously!

And the media handles them with kid-gloves and seriousness when they all should be ridiculed and marginalized.
