After Gridiron Dinner, a covid outbreak among Washington A-list guests
Source: Washington Post
It was supposed to be an evening of lighthearted political satire and bipartisan fellowship among an elite cadre of politicians, journalists and public officials, just as it has been for much of the past 137 years.
Instead, the annual Gridiron Dinner in Washington on Saturday appears to have been notable for a potential coronavirus outbreak among its A-list guests.
As of Wednesday morning, Reps. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.) and Joaquin Castro (D-Tex.) and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo had announced they had received positive results on coronavirus tests after attending the dinner at the downtown Renaissance Washington Hotel. On Wednesday afternoon, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that he, too, had tested positive.
In addition, about a half-dozen journalists as well as members of the White House and National Security Council staffs said they tested positive after the event. Their names are being withheld because they have not announced their status publicly.

(54,436 posts)My dad was president of the Gridiron Club one year, and I've been to a couple of those dinners.
So we play stupid games, too. There was no Corona back then, so we didn't win anything.
The company was kinda cool though, even with stupid people like Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Pat Moynihan, Helen Thomas, Carl Rowan, and other idiots like me and my family, but that's the burden you just have to bear when you agree to attend one of these things.

We appear to be incapable of learning the basics of epidemiology and public health.

(26,289 posts)I don't get it. Admittedly, if you are vaccinated and boosted the ODDS are you won't become really, really ill. Maybe just really ill. Just ill, if you are really lucky.
And, my gut says we're going to get hit, again, by another Covid wave.
I'm double vaxxed and boosted (getting ready to book my 2nd booster). I still avoiding indoor crowds and I'm masking when I run errands. It's not fun, by any means. I talk to my cats more than I talk to humans. It's taking a toll on my mental health but I'm PHYSICALLY healthy and Covid-free.
That being said, my anti-vaxxer nephew and his daughter are supposedly coming up for a visit and I still don't know how I'll handle it.

(14,648 posts)No unvaccinated people are allowed in my home.
I dont go to gatherings or parties or anything.
I just got back from 2 medical offices. Both announce on their phone messages that masks are required. Yet I was the only person, staff included, wearing a mask. And I live in TN, home of a lot of anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers. Im getting ready to books my 2nd booster as well.
Cats are more fun than people most of the time. I have 2 sitting on the porch sofa with me right now.

(45,528 posts)There's no avoiding it at this point since they're all vaccinated. We're all going to get it sooner or later.

(13,614 posts)That's factually false but, with that kind of attitude, you may be right. I guess you're one of those "I'm done with the virus" people who care little about your social responsibility.

Your post was offensive and I suggest an apology, if you are even capable of such.

(3,183 posts)You can't eat with a mask on. Once you're sitting there with a mask off to eat for an hour, what good is a mask for the rest of the time?

(54,436 posts)The ones that wore masks and didn't get infected, I couldn't help but notice, didn't deserve headlines, or even mentioned at all in the article. But, of course, who wants to write headlines about THAT?

(6,929 posts)We wear masks in public buildings. We have appointments for our second booster shots TOMORROW.
Neither of us have been sick and would like to continue that way.
