Biden Names Former Federal Prosecutor to Lead A.T.F.

The president nominated Steven M. Dettelbach to run the troubled agency, seven months after withdrawing his previous pick.

WASHINGTON — President Biden on Monday nominated a former federal prosecutor from Ohio to run the embattled Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, part of a series of measures meant to demonstrate the White House’s modest progress on gun control. ... The moves include the completion of a rule banning online sales of “ghost guns” — untraceable firearms without serial numbers, assembled from components bought online — and come as Mr. Biden faces intensifying pressure from gun control groups to revive a key element of his policy agenda that has been stymied in Congress.

During a speech in the Rose Garden last spring, weeks after mass shootings in Georgia and Colorado, Mr. Biden declared the epidemic of firearms violence “an international embarrassment” and directed the Justice Department to curb the spread of privately manufactured guns that have fueled a surge in violent crime around the country.

Mr. Biden announced that he would tap Steven M. Dettelbach, who served under President Barack Obama as the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, at a Rose Garden event Monday afternoon, seven months after being forced to withdraw the nomination of Mr. Biden’s first choice, David Chipman.

The A.T.F. has completed the long-awaited rule on ghost guns months after sifting through a quarter-million public comments, but about two months earlier than its acting director had predicted in January. The rule is typically enacted 60 to 90 days after completion.

Since he refused to actually name one (to placate militia and Alex Jones types).

Which is probably just as well.

Doesn't the senate have to approve this appointment?

But drop their names anyway.

In 1993, Sanders fulfilled a campaign promise and voted against the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act,
His vote satisfied the VT constituents that won him his race.

Politics is all local as they say.

He since corrected that standing for the 2020 election, so I look forward to his complete support this time around.

Doug Jones should have went full right-wing in 2020. Instead he votes to impeach Trump in Alabama of all states. He may have had a chance.

of those kits will now have to be licensed and include serial numbers on the kits' frame or receivers. In
addition, commercial sellers will have to be federally licensed and run background checks before selling a kit.”

Kits sold by mail will likely need to be sent to an FFL who will conduct a background check.

Expect conservatives to file suit in Federal court claiming only Congress has the authority to make such changes by amending current firearm regulatory measures.
