It sounds like the "unexploded devices" were a false alarm. And none of the injuries are considered life threatening at this point.

I wish I could say Im surprised about this attack, but Im not. It happens with just too much regularity. What did rather surprise me is that I first heard about it from a friend in Nagoya Japan.

(5,840 posts)Sunset Park, the site of the shooting, has long been a hub for working-class immigrant communities and is considered one of the citys most diverse neighborhoods. The 4th Avenue subway station is at the core of the neighborhoods Latin American community, made up largely of Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Central Americans and Ecuadorans. It is also a major transfer station for commuters across Brooklyn.

(94,499 posts)A DOE spokesman said all schools in the area were ordered to shelter in, which means no one leaves the building and there is additional security for adults who enter, but kids and teachers can move freely within the building.
It wasnt immediately clear how many schools were instructed to shelter in, but the order reached schools in Park Slope and other nearby neighborhoods, as well as Sunset Park, parents and teachers said.
The DOE didnt say exactly how many schools were placed on shelter in, or when the order would be lifted.
Several Sunset Park elementary school teachers said students were still largely unaware of the details of the incident.
