First look: Sinema raises $1.6 million during Q1
Source: Axios
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) raised $1.6 million during the first quarter of 2022, and nearly 75% of her contributions totaled less than $100, Axios has learned.
Why it matters: It's a lot of money for a senator who isn't up for reelection until 2024, and isn't a member of leadership or a committee chair. The numbers also give Sinema, a key holdout alongside Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) in the 50-50 Senate, something to point to amid their controversial record of bucking the party.
The fact that 3/4 of her contributions were less than $100, and more than 97% of contributions came from individuals, shows her support from small-dollar donors.
That's a coveted demographic among both parties.
What they're saying: A Sinema campaign spokesperson attributed the numbers, in part, to Sinema's work on the bipartisan infrastructure bill and reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act.

(4,298 posts)I simply do not believe that she is that well liked by Dem voters. The GQP helps her a lot.
I was just getting ready to ask "How?!" and I read this. Hmm ...

(492 posts)I'll give $5 to whoever emerges as her primary opponent.
Right now, we all need to support, work for, and donate to those candidates in those states where there's a chance to capture a Senate seat and make it a genuine Democratic majority and make Sinema and Manchin irrelevant for the rest of President Biden's term.

(6,206 posts)promised voters "not blue, not red" but to represent what Arizona folks want. Sen. Kelly has a commercial running right now that states he will represent and fight for Arizona interests and put Arizona first.
Since I live in Arizona I am not worried about Sinema right now but will focus on getting Kelly back into office.

(10,054 posts)The course, titled Developing Grants and Fundraising, is one of two classes Sinema is teaching this fall at Arizona State Universitys School of Social Work. The syllabus, which was obtained by The Intercept, says students will learn diverse fundraising strategies for nonprofits as well as how to cultivate donors, including large individual donors, by leveraging resources like opportunistic fundraising, finding supporters for major fundraising events and, well, asking for money.'
*Isn't the wonderful Ruben Gallego supposed to be running for her seat? He is amazing!
