CNN -- House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy discussed the 25th Amendment on a call with GOP leadership days after the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and said the process "takes too long," according to an audio recording obtained by two New York Times reporters and shared with CNN.
McCarthy also said during the call that he wanted to reach out to then-President-elect Joe Biden as he expressed hope for a "smooth transition," and said he thought impeachment would further divide the nation.
The call took place on January 8, 2021, and the audio was obtained for the new book "This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America's Future," by Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns.
At one point in the recording, McCarthy asks an aide for a readout of a separate call. It's not clear exactly what call he is referring to. The aide responds, "I think the options that have been cited by the Democrats so far are the 25th Amendment, which is not exactly an elegant solution here."

(12,597 posts)They only want those "base" voters & they'll say whatever it takes to get them. In PRIVATE they'll say what they really think. Remember the Ron Johnson recording of him explaining just HOW trump LOST. Even while still kissing the ample ass in public.

(12,592 posts)There's probably incriminating evidence about McCarthy in one of the 15 boxes Trump stole from the Oval Office on his way out the door. Plus, Kevin was guaranteed the speakership when the GQP takes over the House.
The alternative was having his home address given to the MAGA-maniacs.

(6,207 posts)It's called bullshit. McCarthy is very good at that. In fact that is the only thing he appears to be good at.

(7,813 posts)The 25th amendment is not only a horrendously stupid idea for the braindead WH resident who was leaving office in 2 weeks already, but they had 4 years worth of chances already.
I swear: if I lived to be a thousand years old, I will never understand today's rethugs. Perhaps it's better that I don't - they're entirely unhinged.

(43,281 posts)The House minority leader is not in the loop on the 25th Amendment. So this is a nothing-burger made to sound like a symphony of concern.

(3,475 posts)How long does it take to write a note saying "Napoleon Boneyspurs is Coo-Coo For Cocoa Puffs!" (OK, they'd probably want to put it in more formal language) and have Whitebread Sepulcher and the various Cabinet secretaries sign it?
(Well, obviously there's also the issue of how long it would take them to find the backbone to do so, which was the real problem.)
Like the other option (impeachment) is supposed to be quicker?
