Dr. Oz repeatedly booed by crowd at Donald Trump rally held for the Pennsylvania GOP Senate hopeful
Source: Business Insider
A crowd of Donald Trump supporters repeatedly "booed" Dr. Mehmet Oz ahead of a Friday night rally for the Pennsylvania GOP Senate candidate held by the former president.
The Trump-portion of the rally in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, was slated to begin at 8 p.m. ET, but several rain-soaked Trump enthusiasts were already making their distaste for the celebrity doctor known before the event officially started.
Twice when a prerecorded message from Oz went on the jumbotron at the rally, a substantial portion of the crowd, of roughly several thousand, booed.
Attendees also booed Oz's name when an introductory speaker mentioned endorsing him early on, and again when Trump-endorsed Ohio primary winner JD Vance offered his support.

(559 posts)As odd as it may be I can see many of the Drumpt voters, dissatisfied with elitists like "Dr." Oz, backing John Fetterman in the Senate race. Fetterman has that "authentic" quality that is all the rage with the Independent voter, a group that determines the winners in American elections. Let us hope.

(41,622 posts)... and I also believe that John Fetterman (if he wins the Dem primary) would do a good job bleeding off several of those unhappy voters. And he could grab the independents, and we have many in Pennsylvania. Make no mistake, Fetterman talks the talk and walks the walk (as a progressive), but he's also a smart guy who knows how to talk to "regular folks."
Conor Lamb has a different kind of appeal, he's a middle of the road Democrat. We'll know if a couple of weeks who's going to get the nod.

(71 posts)It's in Westsmoreland County, which is considerably wealthier than my neighboring Fayette County. Once a solidly Democrat/union area, both are now Super Trump Country. But if Oz got booed here, it's because they don't like his ethnicity. They don't really like people of color here. Funny names even less. You should hear them complaining about all of the "Indian" doctors. If it was any other carpetbagger, white with an "American" name, they'd love him.
I know the people here, having lived here for 60 years, and they are VERY racist. Fayette County had never before been won by a GOP candidate until Barack Obama was the candidate. Having said that, I know loads of wonderful, non-racist people here, and we are mortified by our neighbors' love of Trump. I proudly wear my "Fuck Trump" baseball cap everywhere I go. Friends say, "You're going to get your ass kicked one of these days." I've had a few sidelong looks, but in terms of comments, the only ones I get (to my face) are along the lines of, "love your hat; where'd you get it?"

(1,244 posts)I believe the other guy is way more extreme and that is why they are supporting him instead of Oz. Fox spent years denigrating Hollywood "elite"
You are braver than I am. I'm in Penn Township and I'm actually afraid to show my dem support. I'm afraid of vandalism of my house, car, etc. Out on rt22 one of these yahoo's actually threatened to shoot me in a "road rage" incident

(17,504 posts)I can attest to the truth of what you say. But I think the endless attack ads running in western PA have taken a toll on Oz, too. They seem like they'd be effective with the kind of voters at whom they are aimed. Then there is Oz' years on TV and what he said then vs what he says now. The latter two things just add to what many already believe that Oz is a carpet-bagger who doesn't believe what he's telling voters.
The latest F&M Poll has him at only 18% after Trump endorsed him. Jmho, but if McCormick had continued with the clever ads playing up his PA roots and not trying to appeal to the Trumpers, he'd be leading the primary. McCormick's a traditional R, worked in a Bush admin. His wife, Dina Powell, worked in the Trump WH, but she was brought on board by Gary Cohen also a traditional R interested in using Trump for tax cuts, deregulation and other R economic priorities that favor the wealthy and business interests, but not interested in the rw social agenda of Bannon, Miller et al.

(53,214 posts)The primary one is the fact that he used his in-laws' address in Pennsylvania to vote even though he lived in New Jersey. "I just want somebody from Pennsylvania, someone who actually grew up here," said one voter.
Then there is the fact that his views on abortion and gun rights are always shifting. He is also seen as "too Hollywood" and not authentic enough.

(1,505 posts)that this quack didn't promote ?? Even the AMA came out against his constant hyping of phony quick fixes, and endorsing cures and miracle supplements for everything from lowering your cholesterol to losing weight to bowel cleansing. He jumped on every new fad that hit the market. I remember he got hauled before Congress and didn't convince anyone that he was qualified to "sell" such crap on TV.
Thanks Oprah.
