Afghanistan's Taliban order women to cover up head to toe

Source: Associated Press

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Afghanistan's Taliban rulers on Saturday ordered all Afghan women to wear head-to-toe clothing in public, a sharp hard-line pivot that confirmed the worst fears of rights activists and was bound to further complicate Taliban dealings with an already distrustful international community.

The decree, which calls for women to only show their eyes and recommends they wear the head-to-toe burqa, evoked similar restrictions on women during the Taliban's previous rule between 1996 and 2001.

"We want our sisters to live with dignity and safety," said Khalid Hanafi, acting minister for the Taliban's vice and virtue ministry.

The Taliban previously decided against reopening schools to girls above grade 6, reneging on an earlier promise and opting to appease their hard-line base at the expense of further alienating the international community.

The Taliban walked into Kabul without a shot being fired. President Ashraf Ghani didn't want ammunition, he needed a ride and made off with $80m in loot.

What the GQP religious cult intends to do to the women America. Control every aspect of their lives. OUR homegrown Taliban. On the bright side, MTG would be easier on the eyes in a head to toe Burka with black mesh covering her big ignorant mouth. You misunderstood stood my post. I was in no way claiming responsibility of Afghan Taliban on our withdrawal. Just a warning of our destiny under GQP evilgelical, gun toting nuts packed in pickup truck unfurling Their flags of their Messiah. That headline could be ours soon.

The female Fox News hosts don't exactly scream "fundamental" in their dress code.
Someone always says "The GOP wants to do that to!" when ever something like this goes on but I see zero indication the mainstream GOP want women to wear burkas and not go to school. I am sure there is some tiny cult somewhere who does but it is in no way mainstream GOP.

I was over jokingly exaggerating the extent the cult will go after abortion and birth control ban. GQP love to see as much of the bodies of women they can to objectify them in their patriarchal way. They are very beautiful “vessels.” Maybe burka’s will be Abbotts way to end Texas Rape.
It’s obvious many GQP like them young and naked.

Along with the blood of many, many thousands of Afghanis.

The government fell in less than a week. The lesson here seems to be that outside of the cities, there is NO support for equal rights or protections for women that contradict the Taliban’s violent religious fundamentalism.

In some non-trivial ways, it bears a passing resemblance to the urban/rural divide in this country.

Everywhere on Earth, children assume they have no choice. Legally, socially, economically, religiously. Because they don't. Children's minds, behavior and free wills are trained all over the Earth. Which is why they are so easy to lead even in adulthood. Some childhood trainings never die.

I've never seen a minor child make a choice to be trained into religious life. I have, however, seen many of them, once feeling independent of their families, opt out of their religious training. But only where there are safe, visible choices about how one might live one's life.

No adult can convince me that a child, boy or girl, who sees women covered all around her/him, including her/his mother, is not subtlely groomed to make her/his "free choice." Any child exposed to food, language, dress, deference to boys and men, silent obedience from women, religion as law, is conditioned into the free choice to be that way. It's self reinforcing, isn't it.

And so in the Christian sharia mindset of the United States. Along with racist lingo, none dare speak its name.

A very substantial majority of the country - in the final result, had little real objection to Taliban governance, or rules. (and that after having had the advantage of living under that rule, and being quite well aware of its implications, previously)

Yes, I feel great sympathy for the women and children, living once again under harsh and repressive strictures. While also recognizing that a good percentage of women were/are also in support of this type of strict social order as well. (as they so often are) It appears, from this perspective, a great social tragedy. But - the Afghan people, in large part, chose to roll back the clock.

I do not shed a tear or care one bit. We wasted American lives and trillions of dollars to build a country for the Afghan people. They refused to fight and stood down in 11 days. They used us. They supply over 90% of the world's heroin. They use children (male and female) as slave sex toys. They want to smoke hash and have their little kingdoms.

We should have bombed the shit out of them and walked away. If they stuck their head up, then bomb them again. Repeat.

Their troops, police, etc. were often waiting for their pay. And what they got, was often skimmed by higher ups. That's why the President and his cabal up and bailed with all their cash. They knew they wouldn't be defended and probably always planned on getting their US aid and leave the country.

The Taliban was successful in negotiating with the troops, etc. because morale was immensely low, told to charge out there to fight them but don't even get paid for it.

We helped install corrupt leaders, whose parents were corrupt and fled the nation the last time around. There was never a chance.
