One place you won't find guns in the wake of the Texas school massacre? The NRA's upcoming leadership conference in Houston this week.
One place you won't be able to find firearms in Texas after the Robb Elementary School massacre is, surprisingly, the National Rifle Association's upcoming forum in Houston on May 27.
According to a memo on the NRA's website, NRA members will not be able to bring their firearms to the Houston meeting.
The leadership forum is described as "one of the most politically significant and popular events in the country, featuring our nation's top Second Amendment leaders in government, the media, and the entertainment industry."
Confirmed speakers for the event include former President Donald Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Other scheduled speakers include Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw, and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.

(46,227 posts)FIREARMS POLICY FOR THE NRA ANNUAL MEETINGS & EXHIBITS
During the 151st NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, personal firearms may be carried in the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRBCC) in accordance with Texas law. When carrying your firearm, always adhere to all federal, state, and local laws.
https://www.nraam.org/attend/firearms-policy/
And this is from an article about the 2019 NRA Convention in Indiana: "the carrying of personal firearms will be allowed inside the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium during the convention from April 26-28, as long as the owner is licensed to do so under Indiana law. ... When carrying your firearm, remember to follow all federal, state and local laws."

(46,227 posts)And at recent NRA shows, guns have been allowed except at those times when President or VP is appearing.
So which part of my post was "untrue"? And which part of your post was true?

(10,362 posts)After all that gun ban by the secret service is a violation of their rights and freedums. Wonder why the NRA would be good with a 100% BAN on weapons?

(17,925 posts)that. The NRA wont allow guns in their own meeting. What do they fear? What about all the good guys with a gun, like they are always saying. Again, what do they fear?

(3,416 posts)Not that it wouldn't be interesting to find out. Strictly theoretically speaking, of course.
Do you get the feeling that if it was rich Republicans victimized that the reaction might be a bit more than 'thoughts and prayers'?

Likewise the hotels which are housing Lapierre and the rest of the NRA leadership should be put on notice for doing business with terrorists.

(8,665 posts)the results we see in Houston and nearly everywhere else on very nearly a daily basis then I suggest you need to reconsider your point of view regarding it.
If you cannot see the link between millions spent through this outfit to blunt American law and the creation of a terrorist environment driven by unfettered weapons access and encouraged as a right of personal defense ( a right not iterated in the original amendment) by the same group, then you have missed some very significant evidence. At least 70 million dollars of Russian money in one election cycle alone.

As much as the republicans have tried to destroy the fundamental nature of the US as a nation of laws, I'm not giving in and pretending that we can somehow defeat them in a court of law without being able to cite to an actual law that they've violated.

(10,138 posts)The gun prohibition is not from the NRA.
The gun prohibition is from the building owner and/or the owner's insurance company.
If the NRA owned the convention building, the NRA could allow all the guns they wanted to.
Of course, any Secret Service protection detail will toss on extra restrictions.

The fact that the NRA generally allows guns to be carried at the convention is clearly stated by the NRA on its website.
