(8,731 posts)A huge drum circle in heaven lead by Taylor Hawkins, Bohnam, White a so many more Amazing drummers. Lots of hippies in TieDyed robes dancing around the jam. RIP Alan. You could not pick out Jesus in that crowd unless his robe was just plain white.

(9,139 posts)Alan White was the drummer for that band.
Thanks for the music, Alan.

(73,537 posts)RIP.
He plays on some of John's best post-Beatles songs.

(7,347 posts)He was on John Lennon' s "Instant Karma" which I did not know until much later and was one of the first songs I remember hearing on the radio. Also drummed on Lennon's "Imagine" and George Harrison's " All Things Must Pass" albums.
But I knew of him first through Yes. Yeah, Bill Bruford is/was one of the best ever, but Alan was up there too. More of a power-style drummer... "Relayer" is my favorite Yes album...

(7,347 posts)I have to admit I've never listened to the "Live Peace In Toronto" album! The version on that album isn't the one that became the hit single, is it? That version was recorded in their hotel room, I think...

(6,544 posts)As a long time (since 1972) Yes fan (hence "Relayer"Bob), and having seen them over 40 times, this is very somber news. Grateful I got to meet him on many occasions, he was a fine and caring man, in addition to being a fantastic drummer.
Rest in peace, Alan.

Alan White, Vangelis, Chris Squire, John Wetton, Greg Lake, Keith Emerson.
Imagine the three part harmonies of Lake, Squire and Wetton.
RIP guys.

(7,347 posts)Well, I didn't learn of Vangelis until a little later, in college...but yeah, Graeme Edge and Ray Thomas too. The Moody Blues were first band I was into and through them I learned of these other bands. Of course it is to be expected, and a natural part of life, but still it is hard, memories of our youth passing away.

If you have not heard the Vangelis record 'Heaven & Hell' it is a must. Jon Anderson sings on one song.

That tour became the Yessongs album.
And yes! Close To The Edge is perhaps one of the greatest records ever along with Abbey Rd and Dark Side Of The Moon..
