Michael Avenatti sentenced to 4 years in prison for stealing from Stormy Daniels

Source: NBC News

A federal judge in New York on Thursday sentenced disgraced lawyer Michael Avenatti to four years in prison for stealing from his former client, onetime adult film actor Stormy Daniels, who wrote an explosive 2018 book.

Avenatti learned his fate, appearing before U.S. District Court Judge Jesse Furman in Lower Manhattan.

The defendant had proposed that he be sentenced to three years in prison, while prosecutors had sought four years behind bars.

In February, Avenatti was convicted of wire fraud and identity theft for pocketing about $300,000 of the $800,000 advance that Daniels was paid for her book, “Full Disclosure,” which included details about an alleged affair she had with Donald Trump before he was president.

That said, there are rapists who get less than 4 years. He's getting punished to this degree to make
an example of him. I guarantee that if you give me 20 minutes, I can come up with plenty
of wire fraud cases where the defendant didn't get 4 years. While he is guilty, this isn't
equitable.

He got 4 and will serve 2 1/2.

Wait until he gets tried for stealing a million dollar settlement from his disabled client in another case

I had such high hopes for this case. I’m gonna blame her a bit for listening to his bullshit.
She should have went to a totally boring attorney group. Not some com man like this, just like Trump.

He stuck it to Trump - and then he stuck it to his client. An equal-opportunity scumbag. Four years sounds about right to me for a lawyer who took an oath and had a license to practice.

Hell he could have won a presidential primary here at one time. And DU is loaded with some pretty damn smart people.
He's a jerk getting what he deserves.
Unless you hoped he would get MORE time.

… back when the DU fan club was in full swing, but the enthusiasts weren’t terribly interested. All that mattered was that Avenatti was a flashy antagonist against the orange man we all hated. Well, plus the titillation of having a porn star as the heroine of the story.

I ended up having more respect for the porn star than for the lawyer.

I have originated and worked on a couple of decent size plaintiff cases and have worked with some really strong commercial plaintiff attorneys. These attorneys are fun to hang out with in part because they are very smart. Heck, I got to meet Joe Biden twice at the homes of two of the stronger commercial plaintiff attorneys in 2019. I knew a number of the attorneys who worked on the Texas tobacco case and heard some fun stories. These attorneys were fun to hang out with.

OTG, many of the personal injury plaintiff attorneys give me a bad vibe. Avanti fell into this category for me
