Man arrested near Kavanaugh's home charged with attempting to murder Supreme Court justice
Source: CBS News
Washington A California man who was allegedly armed with a gun, knife and various tools when he was arrested in the early morning near Justice Brett Kavanaugh's house in Maryland has been charged with attempted murder, federal officials said in court papers filed Wednesday.
The man was detained around 1:50 a.m. after making threats against Kavanaugh, according to an FBI affidavit filed in federal court in Maryland. The suspect was transported to Montgomery County Police 2nd District in Bethesda, Maryland, Supreme Court spokeswoman Patricia McCabe said.
The affidavit identified the man as Nicholas John Roske, a 26-year-old from Simi Valley, California. He was expected to appear before Magistrate Judge Timothy Sullivan on Wednesday afternoon.

(3,782 posts)For an insanity plea he has to claim he didn't know the difference between right and wrong, but he admitted his motivations and didn't leave much room for that either.

Then he contacted authorities and disclosed what his thoughts were....
However, I agree with the other poster. I see no actual "attempted murder" here. Some lessor charge, sure... but he walked away from the scene, and then deliberately contacted authorities to turn himself in.
So where is righty, defending this man's second amendment rights to carry a gun???

And if he's SO scared for his family, just go out and buy a "Guns for the whole family" pack?

(96 posts)However, we're talking about SCOTUS justices, who are not elected, but appointed to lifetime tenures and therefore cannot be voted out, are only extremely rarely removed (if ever), face no accountability for the rulings they hand down, can apparently commit perjury with impunity - as long as there are enough senators of the party that confirmed them still in office - and can be used to effect de-facto political changes without the passing of any legislation. I'm not saying I condone the man's actions, but I can certainly understand them.
Which brings up another point: The characteristics of these SCOTUS justices have actually been also helpful to many causes that have become the party platform of the Democratic Party - Abortion Rights, Gay Marriage, and (a flawed attempt at) Universal Healthcare. Now, that the shoe is on the other foot, as it were, should Democrats make it part of the party platform as well to reform the SCOTUS, now that the flaws of the system are apparent, in much the same way that we started to decry and work to eliminate partisan gerrymandering when it was used against us to great detrimental effect?

(3,782 posts)I mean, it might be kind of hard to come up with another explanation of why you're lurking near the home of a Very Important Person at 1 AM with a high powered rifle, but once you admit you were planning to kill the judge it's confessed attempted murder.

(3,782 posts)They work their way up from the small fish to the big fish to the leaders, and it takes time. The people who are most culpable are harder to connect to the actual stuff going down on the street, so dots have to be connected. They are now at the level of people who are actually going to jail for years for seditious conspiracy. The importance of setting an example for the next level up makes them reluctant to press any charges they can't prove with 99.9% certainty.
This is one guy who was caught next to a VIP's residence with an arsenal and admitted what he was up to. It will go much more quickly and directly.

(5,410 posts)And I don't see the actual "attempted murder" here either.
He turned around, walked away, and then reported himself to the authorities to prevent any murder from taking place..

crazy, false flag and maybe reconnaissance like the RW Congresscritters helped the insurrectionists scope out the interior INSIDE the Capitol Building. They did a lot of recon leading up to 1/6 and in Michigan...these clowns wanted to hang Pelosi and pence, with this Roe V. Wade decision coming up, trying to intimidate?

A Democratic hit man tried to kill Justice Kavanaugh today. Now, left-wing street militias have again announced their intent to protest his home in direct violation of federal law. Merrick Garland must arrest every single one tonight or resign in disgrace.
He thought Kavanaugh would vote to weaken the 2nd Amendment. He did like the idea of more 2nd Amendment restrictions.

(34,837 posts)Threatening terrorism against the United States is a class C felony punishable by up to 10 years' imprisonment under 18 U.S.C. § 2332b(c)(1)(g). The elements of the offense are that someone willfully threatens to commit a crime that will result in death or great bodily harm; the threat is made with the specific intent that it be taken as a threat; the threat is so unequivocal, unconditional, and specific as to convey a gravity of purpose and immediate prospect of execution; the threat actually causes fear in the victim; and the fear is reasonable.[1]
Laws governing such threats were passed after the September 11, 2001 attacks. The law was amended by the Terrorist Hoax Improvements Act of 2007.[2][3] False information and hoaxes pertaining to attacks on U.S. officials, government buildings, airplanes, etc. are also punishable under 18 U.S.C. § 1038 as a class D felony, which is punishable by up to 5 years' imprisonment.[4]

Did some right-wing dark money group engineer this incident? The timing is suspect.
In a country that hasnt seen any real organized leftist violence in many decades there is suddenly a pro-Roe v Wade zealot outside Kavanaughs house. Who when detained confesses to wanting to assassinate the Dishonorable Brett Kavanaugh.
Right before the Jan 6th televised hearings?
Id like to hear a lot more details.
Doesnt pass the sniff test.

To me, it sounds as if he just wasn't a bad enough guy, to go through with an actual attempt.
