Russia says West risks 'direct military clash' over cyber attacks
Source: Reuters
June 9 (Reuters) - Russia warned the West on Thursday that cyber attacks against its infrastructure risked leading to direct military confrontation, and that attempts to challenge Moscow in the cyber sphere would be met with targeted countermeasures.
The warning comes after Russia's housing ministry website appeared to be hacked over the weekend, with an internet search for the site leading to a "Glory to Ukraine" sign in Ukrainian.
In a statement, the foreign ministry said that Russia's critical infrastructure and state institutions were being hit by cyberattacks and pointed to figures in the United States and Ukraine as being responsible.
"Rest assured, Russia will not leave aggressive actions unanswered," it said. "All our steps will be measured, targeted, in accordance with our legislation and international law."

Oh, you must mean like the illegal invasions of Ukraine, right?
Russia has not and will not follow international law. They have lied about Ukraine for at least a century now.

(9,981 posts)After arguing with myself for awhile, I have finally reached the point where I believe NATO should get involved and help bring this war to an end. Putin is still calling the shots in spite of sanctions. And Ukrainian food crops are in danger of rotting, at least the ones Russia hasnt already stolen, because Putin will not allow their ships to leave port. Why is the Un still negotiating with Putin? Announce that a fleet of ships will escort Ukrainian cargo ships out of the Black Sea to avoid drastic loss of needed food supplies in many parts of the world. Then do it. Would Russia really dare sink a NATO ship? That would truly be a declaration of war.
I also disagreed with Bidens condition that Ukraine not use thenPatriot missiles to attack Russian territory. Why not? Russia is the aggressor here, and Ukraine has a right to take the war to them. Im sure Biden wanted to avoid giving Putin reason to escalate, but he will do it anyway if he thinks hes losing. Havent the Ukrainian people suffered enough? With the D-Day commemorations this week, I thought about how the Allied landings would have had different results if commanders had said lets just parcel out a few landings and see if that changes the Germans minds. If not, well eventually send more troops and weaponry. Thats what we are doing to Ukraine.

(111,254 posts)Remember Cosy Bear? We sure as hell do, along with all the TFG loving bots that absolutely flooded Twitter to pump his number of followers up. We remember GRU interference, Hillary Clinton's emails being delivered to Wikileaks, allowing the right wint to shriek about breaches of security that weren't her fault on a server that wasn't against the law when she was SOS. Apparently she is a lot savvier than the GRU is because there was nothing remotely incriminating in 4 years of email.
Vlad we remember your slick campaigns on Farcebook for Brexit and then to give us TFG and we will never, ever forgive Russia for saddling this country with TFG for four of the longest years we've ever experienced.
So Vlad, take that high dudgeon and your threats and shove them where the sun never shines.
And don't forget our targeting systems, we can stuff a nuke down your chimney. You'll be lucky to get within 10 miles of a target.

(23,097 posts)The West has to have been hurting him significantly, I'd bet. Previously he didn't seen at all concerned about this possibility. Either that or he really is batshit and trying to dramatically increase the scope of the war when he can't even handle Ukraine (with more munitions) or at least make "us" think he will.

It's tiring arguing with people who continue to defend Russia's actions and rhetoric. I don't understand the people who have often rightfully criticized US aggression and hypocrisy , but they can't seem to bring themselves to hold Russia (or China) to the same standards. In fact, many of those same people defend anything that is remotely "anti-west".
