Police officer who killed Patrick Lyoya charged with murder

Source: The Grand Rapids Press

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Kent County prosecutors have authorized a charge of second-degree murder against a Grand Rapids police officer who shot and killed a Black motorist, Patrick Lyoya, during a struggle.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker’s decision came more than two months after the April 4 shooting along a Southeast Grand Rapids street that put a national spotlight on Grand Rapids.

Becker said he expects the officer, Christopher Schurr, to be arraigned Friday in Grand Rapids District Court.

kabuki performance starting @13:30 odd, when they were doing "cpr" on the corpse of a man with a bullet in the back of his skull? Weirdly the second guy seemed to be humping the body rather than doing the useless chest compressions.

I think this case has not gotten the attention that it deserves. If he had not been charged it would have been a blatant miscarriage of justice.

I haven’t seen whether that was true. Cops have a long history of intentionally typing the wrong license plate number into the computer to manufacture probable cause for a traffic stop where they then go on a fishing expedition. They even have a name for it — “fat fingering.”

If the fishing expedition is successful — hooray — they can write tickets or make an arrest. If not, it’s “Sorry sir. I see now that you do have the correct plate. My fat fingers must have ‘accidentally’ typed the wrong license plate number. Have a nice day!”
