'We're Angry': Thousands to Rally Against Gun Violence Saturday In March For Our Lives Protests

Source: USA Today

Thousands of gun control advocates were expected to rally across the country Saturday in nationwide March for Our Lives protests to demand action on gun laws after a spate of deadly mass shootings.

Up to 50,000 protesters were expected in Washington, D.C., for a march against gun violence, according to a permit from the National Park Service. Several hundred marches were planned across the country, including in New York City, Las Vegas and Chicago.

That year, the group rallied more than 1 million people in the nation's capital and hosted sister rallies around the country and world, ramping up public pressure to change gun laws that - four years later - have largely still not been addressed.

Who are the speakers in the district? On Saturday, protesters were expected to meet at the Washington Monument in the district at noon for the demonstration, which will include speeches, videos and musical performances. Speakers are set to include co-founders David Hogg, X Gonzalez, Democratic Rep. Cori Bush, National Education Association President Becky Pringle and gun violence survivor RuQuan Brown. Yolanda Renee King, Martin Luther King Jr.'s granddaughter, will return as a speaker...

Look at the map of all the events at the link. 2 weeks ago there were only 100 rallies planned. Check the link to see if one is near you.

I feel sick when I don't even need to make a new sign. I just pull out the sign I used a few years ago and it is good to go. THAT is disgusting to me.

Too difficult to deal with firearms. We can change the status quo.

We’ll rue the day
There will be hell to pay
And fiery purgatory
Come what may
Come what may
Commitment!”

between pushing for gun violence legislation, women's reproductive health legislation, and voting rights legislation, as well as these things helping to save our democracy from a fascist gun-toting police state. This is the type of thing that actually helped to build the blue tsunami in 2018 (particularly with the Russia probe going on and the regular protests associated with that) and then followed on with the 2020 BLM protests (although that enhanced turnout by the GOP lost us some seats in swing districts)...

And although we're obviously in a different environment with a pandemic (and its fallout) still going on plus the Russia/Ukraine War making things worse, and being hamstrung from restricted (due to the filibuster) control of Congress, we are not going to have the same type of "throw the bums out" dynamic except when it comes to getting rid of the GOP loons. However the protests might help to actually keep our electorate engaged and motivated, and thus help to hold the ship upright, and afloat come November.

In Minocqua in pouring rain. This transcends party politics; even gun-owning Rs want their children to be safe. Hunters here understand gun safety.
