Kinzinger says Jan. 6 panel has evidence lawmakers sought pardons from Trump
Source: CBS News
Washington Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of the Republicans who sits on the House select committee examining the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, said Sunday that the panel will unveil evidence in upcoming hearings that Republican members of Congress sought pardons from former President Donald Trump in his final weeks in office.
"We're not going to make accusations or say things without proof or evidence backing it," Kinzinger, of Illinois, said in an interview with "Face the Nation" when asked about the revelation last week that GOP lawmakers sought presidential pardons.
Last Thursday, the House select committee held the first of at least six public hearings expected across June, which mark a new phase in the panel's investigation into the events leading up to and on Jan. 6, 2021. During the proceedings last week, committee Vice Chair Liz Cheney, a Republican from Wyoming, revealed "multiple" GOP congressmen sought presidential pardons for their roles in attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Cheney named Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania as one of the Republicans who sought a pardon from Trump, though he denied doing so and called the notion "an absolute, shameless, and soulless lie."

(27,557 posts)Trump wanted to replace Acting AG Jeffrey Rosen with his lapdog Clark. Like his predecessor Barr, Rosen would have none of Trump's treachery. But that plot was foiled when Rosen, along with the DOJ's remaining senior leaders, all threatened to resign as a consequence.
It was Scott Perry who had introduced Clark to Trump.

Maybe they're being very strategic in how they are going to disclose (by name) who these particular Republicans were.
It's interesting that they only brought up Scott Perry. Maybe they did it to foreshadow that they really do have actual names and situations.

She's currently a member of the Harrisburg City Council.
All of the trackers list the seat as "solid" or "safe" Republican although with Perry being under investigation, it'll probably be a badge of honor for him if his ass isn't arrested before the election. The 2022 map is pretty much the same as the 2018 one that un-gerrymandered the Congressional districts.
This is approximately how the map still looks (and how it factored in 2020) -
That blue in the center is the capital city Harrisburg and I think the one to the south is probably York and the one to the west may be part of Carlisle.
I saw some analysis from the 2020 race that mentioned some shifts going on over that way in terms of more of the suburbs of Harrisburg going purplish and blueish, although I don't think it would be enough to flip that but it's something that could be worked.

(15,276 posts)west of Carlisle and a bit more of York county south of York. That makes the district a bit more R. If Perry ends up being the "star" of the hearing covering the attempt to put Clark in charge of DoJ, there might be enough Rs willing to vote against him, withhold their vote or just not bother to vote at all to flip the seat.

(128,779 posts)if the odd chance occurs that Perry gets some kind of indictment and is forced to drop out, would the GOP make a fuss to get someone else on the ballot to replace him (if that all happened before the general election)? I think he ran unopposed in the primary.
Deminpenn
(15,276 posts)threads that he'd have to withdraw by mid-Aug for Dems to replace him? The same deadline should apply to Rs if Perry were to drop out. Maybe the Rs will pressure him to withdraw if they think the J6 hearnings make him damaged goods.

August 15, 2022 Last day for withdrawal by candidates nominated at the primary

So that may be where that "August" date came from.
