EPA must cancel popular Seresto collar over link to pet deaths, congressional subcommittee finds
Source: USA Today
One of the most popular flea and tick collars in America poses too great a risk to animals and humans and should be removed from the market, a congressional subcommittee recommended in a report released Wednesday ahead of its hearing titled Seresto Flea and Tick Collars: Examining Why a Product Linked to More than 2,500 Pet Deaths Remains on the Market.
The House Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, which is a part of the House Oversight Committee, the main investigative body in the U.S. House of Representatives, said the hearing will probe the Environmental Protection Agencys failure to regulate the Seresto collar as well as Elancos refusal to take action to protect pets and their owners from the collars harm.
Owners of deceased pets are scheduled to testify at the hearing, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Eastern today, as well as a former EPA staffer and other experts. Jeffrey Simmons, the president and CEO of Elanco, which manufactures Seresto, is also expected to testify, the committee announced.
Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-ILL., launched an investigation into the collar in March 2021, after reporting by Investigate Midwest and USA TODAY revealed the high number of incidents related to the collar, as well as the EPAs inaction despite knowing about the issue for nearly a decade.

(14,637 posts)Someone told me that anything strong enough to kill the fleas will kill the pet. We dont use any poisons on our pets and dont have any tick or flea problems.
poison is poison. I've used natural products for at least 15 years on all of my kittens. No fleas, no ticks, no problems.

are the best cat collars I've ever used, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WLTF386/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They are cheaper on ebay but amazon has a complete description. I also use and have used diatomaceous earth. I put it in a salt shaker and sprinkle it lightly on the fur if I get behind on ordering collars. You can also use it in you yard and house.

(18,866 posts)You pretty much have to use parasite control here in Missouri. Dogs die here if they don't get some protection. Ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, heartworm, round worm, other worms. Summertime is bad here.

(1,938 posts)He was having a lot of trouble with nonstop ear ticks. These are the soft bodied ticks that burrow way inside the ear. Drives the poor cat nuts. So the vet recommended the collar. This did not have a good outcome.
