Michigan Dems launch lobbying effort to earn early 2024 primary
Source: Politico
Michigan Democrats are ramping up their campaign to hold one of the first presidential primaries in 2024 and beyond.
In a letter obtained by POLITICO, the Michigan Democratic congressional delegation is making the case to Democratic National Committee members that the states diversity, competitiveness and ability to represent the full range of experiences of the rest of our country make it a worthy early presidential state. Its the latest step in a wave of internal politicking unleashed by the partys decision earlier this year to remake the Democratic nominating calendar.
A trailer-style video making the case for Michigan will be released early next week, while congressional leaders are also making personal calls to members of the DNC committee charged with recommending a new slate of early-voting states. A website dubbed Move Michigan Up,, is seeking signature support from voters.
Its an all-hands-on-deck moment for us, and so, we have the business community, the labor community, the political community, the faith community we have everyone, really, reaching out, said Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) in an interview with POLITICO. Everyone in Michigan is excited to really be recognized for what weve known for a long time we are the place to pick presidents.

I could see Michigan in the front of the list. Only one major media market, representative of Democratic voters and the kind of State a wining nominee would need to win in the General Election.

Edwards pulled out of the primary, as did Obama. I voted "other", meaning "Edwards". This was before he became "that" John Edwards.
I think Michigan was excluded from the Dem convention that year, until a last-minute dispensation allowed the delegates in.
I'm not sure how "early" is better. It might cause extra traffic, and more of a wait at the local pancake houses.
