Jan. 6 panel to seek testimony from Ginni Thomas

Source: Axios

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack plans to seek testimony from conservative activist Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, the panel’s chair said Thursday.

Why it matters: The decision comes after public and private wavering among committee members in recent weeks over the importance of Thomas’ role in Jan. 6 and former President Trump’s efforts to overturn the election.

Thomas played an active role in pushing then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to take measures to help overturn the 2020 election results, according to texts obtained by the Washington Post and CBS News.

What they’re saying: “We think it’s time that we, at some point, invite her to come talk to the committee,” Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told reporters.

Chairman says Jan. 6 committee will seek interview with Ginni Thomas

By Jacqueline Alemany and John Wagner 11:39 a.m.

Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.), chairman of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, said the panel plans to invite Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, to be interviewed by the panel.

“We think it’s time that we, at some point, invite her to come talk to the committee,” Thompson said Thursday.

The Post first reported Wednesday that the committee has obtained email correspondence between Thomas and lawyer John Eastman, who played a key role in efforts to pressure Vice President Mike Pence to block the certification of Joe Biden’s victory, according to three people involved in the committee’s investigation.

The emails show that Thomas’s efforts to overturn the election were more extensive than previously known, two of the people said. The three declined to provide details and spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.

Bet...

-she'll dodge the request
-winger heads will explode
-elected MAGATS will scream to high heaven
-Clarence will cry foul
-Trump will get involved
-the chief justice is taking sedatives as his legacy is in tatters

More to come....

More likely -

- This is a trial balloon that probably won't result in an invitation
- If it does... she won't "dodge" it. Her attorney will just say "no thanks"
- The panel won't subpoena her
- DUers will "cry foul" or "heads will explode"

Pressure must be applied to the Chief Justice to have Clarence recuse himself, OR be recused, from all cases relating to J6.

But it does put pressure on Clarence to recuse at least as it brings more info about his corruption to the public forum. Most people aren't paying as much attention to this but putting her name out there may make more ears perk up

she'll acknowledge the invite, I am next happiest to think that Roberts is upset that his legacy is being torn to shreds.

It was only a matter of time before they managed to inject severe dysfunction into the Supreme Court. So now we have a dysfunctional Congress, a president hampered by the dysfunction in Congress, and a Supreme Court bent of promoting corporatism and the white supremacist, theocratic agenda of the religious right. In the words of one of my favorite poets, W. B. Yeats,

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Now to get Clarence to resign, as he should.

Roberts has been a fairly weak Chief Justice. He should be on top of all this.
